Arizona Snowbowl Partners With High Country Adaptive Sports To Host Third Annual TetraSki Race On Friday, February 21, 2025.
Arizona Snowbowl is proud to partner with High Country Adaptive Sports to host its third annual TetraSki Race on Friday, February 21, 2025.
For individuals with high-level spinal cord injuries and other complex disabilities that limit physical function, TetraSki is the world's only independent alpine ski. Athletes use a sit-ski device to navigate a giant slalom-style course. The system enables skiers to control speed and direction using either a joystick or a sip-and-puff mechanism.
The races start at 10 AM at Arizona Snowbowl’s Hart Prairie Run, followed by an awards ceremony at 4 PM. The race serves to qualify participants for the third annual Brian McKenna TetraSki Express, an international championship downhill race for TetraSki, taking place in Utah this March. This year's race is also open to all adaptive disciplines, including participants on the autism spectrum and those with physical disabilities who ski standing up, or use other adaptive equipment. Guests are encouraged to cheer on the athletes and celebrate their achievements.
The event is organized by High Country Adaptive Sports, a non-profit organization that believes that sliding on snow should be accessible to everyone and strives to exemplify this daily by providing safe and effective ski and ride lessons.
Throughout the season, High Country Adaptive’s winter program at Arizona Snowbowl offers personalized instruction, state-of-the-art adaptive equipment, and a supportive environment for adults and youth with a wide range of disabilities. The program focuses on one-on-one lessons to ensure that participants receive tailored instruction to meet their unique needs.
"This race gives athletes with disabilities the opportunity to compete against fellow skiers on a modified GS race course, and acts as a starting point for athletes looking for some friendly competition and those seeking to hone their skill on the slopes,” explains Truman Shoaff, Programs Director at High Country Adaptive Sports.
“At Arizona Snowbowl, we believe there are no limits to learning to ski or snowboard,” says Angie Grubb, Marketing Manager at Arizona Snowbowl. “Our long-standing collaboration with High Country Adaptive Sports underscores our resort’s commitment to making skiing and snowboarding accessible to everyone.”
