New Owners For NASTAR
NASTAR has new owners.
NASTAR stands for NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world. Founded in 1968, NASTAR gives recreational racers an opportunity to compete and compare their scores to friends and family regardless of when and where they race using the NASTAR handicap system.
NASTAR was developed by SKI Magazine in 1968 and now boasts more than 100,000 races at over 100 resorts around the country. Racers are scored by earning a handicap that represents their ability. The handicap provides participants with a tangible number, or handicap, that is the percentage they are behind the time of the National Standard or the National Pacesetter.
Today, NASTAR is a family operated grassroots program. NASTAR is bringing greater awareness to the sport and value to the industry while motivating participants of all ages to get involved in alpine racing.
The new owners say:
"We are excited to officially announce that Global Reach Sports is now the proud owner of NASTAR. This transition marks a new chapter for NASTAR, where it will benefit from the dedicated focus and resources of Global Reach Sports — a collaboration between Split Second Timing (owner of Live-Timing.com) and Silicon Peak — ensuring that the program receives the full attention it deserves.
Tear Down This Paywall!
In our first major initiative, we have removed the paywall. Now, all results, rankings, and race records are freely accessible to everyone. We believe that your achievements and progress should be available without restriction, empowering all participants to fully engage with their NASTAR experience.
Lowered Resort Fees
To further enhance accessibility, we’ve lowered the costs for resorts to host NASTAR. This change is designed to encourage more resorts to host NASTAR races, expanding opportunities for skiers and snowboarders across the country. Our goal is to bring the excitement of NASTAR to as many people as possible, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.
A New Era of Technological Innovation
Global Reach Sports has been the technological backbone of NASTAR for the past 26 years, providing everything from on-slope timing to seamless event registration and user-friendly tools for managing results and rankings, including real-time race results through Live-Timing.com. Now, with NASTAR as our sole focus, we are committed to further enhancing these technologies, ensuring that NASTAR remains at the forefront of ski racing innovation.
NASTAR Nationals: A Strategic Pause
As we take the reins of NASTAR, we've made the difficult decision to pause the National Championships for this season. While Nationals have been a cherished event, they serve a small segment of the NASTAR community. Our priority is to refocus on the broader NASTAR community, enhancing the experience at the resort level to benefit all racers. This approach allows us to invest more resources into creating a more inclusive and engaging experience for everyone.
A Word from Our Leadership
“We are honored to be entrusted with the future of NASTAR and take this responsibility very seriously. Our mission is to ensure that NASTAR receives the dedicated focus it deserves. With our deep roots in the ski racing community and a commitment to innovation, we are excited to guide NASTAR into its next chapter,” said Geoff Elder, Partner at Global Reach Sports. “With NASTAR as our only focus, we have exciting plans ahead that will blend tradition with cutting-edge technology, enhancing the experience for every participant and fostering deeper connections within the skiing community.” "
