Middlebury Snowbowl: Exciting Updates Coming To Bailey Falls

The beloved Bailey Falls area, affectionately known as the “backside” of Middlebury Snowbowl, is about to receive an uplift. This cherished part of our community holds a special place in the hearts of many for its nostalgic charm and unique skiing and riding experiences.

They say:

"Historically, access to Bailey Falls has been limited by unpredictable snowfall, as it lacks snowmaking coverage. Additionally, we’ve faced challenges ranging from labor shortages to the need for physical, mechanical, and system updates. However, we are now ready to tackle these challenges head-on.

We are excited to announce that we are bringing the Bailey Falls lift up to today’s standards. This project will commence in the coming weeks and includes upgrades to ensure the lift’s dependability for years to come. We have ordered a brand-new haul rope from SkyTrac and executed a work order for the refurbishment of the electrical and safety systems. These crucial updates will provide our dedicated customers with reliable access to one of the most sought-after areas of our mountain.

The Bailey Falls lift has a rich history. Originally installed as a Pomalift in the 1969-70 season, this lift was a crucial development for Middlebury Snowbowl, providing access to the backside of the mountain and enhancing the overall skiing experience (New England Ski History). The current lift, known as the Bailey Falls Triple, was installed brand new in 1987. With an install length of 4,395 feet and an install vertical of 980 feet, it stands as the longest lift at the Snowbowl (Lift Blog) (New England Ski History). Over the years, it has undergone several updates to maintain its functionality and safety. Despite these efforts, the lift has faced challenges, particularly with snow coverage and outdated mechanical systems, making this latest overhaul essential for its continued operation and reliability.

This final leg of our lift service system upgrade follows the installation of the Worth Mountain Triple in 2009 and the new Sheehan Quad last summer. With the completion of this project, we will effectively ensure the consistency, reliability, and safety of our entire lift network.

These upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing your skiing and riding experience at Middlebury Snowbowl. We appreciate your support and patience as we work to make these improvements.

The Bailey falls lift refurbishment is an active and fluid schedule, so the timeline for completion and public use is not set at this time. Stay tuned for more updates, we look forward to welcoming you to a better-than-ever Snowbowl soon!"
