La Rosiere Ready For Winter

Founded in 1960 by its residents, La Rosière is an authentic and welcoming resort offering 13,950 tourist beds. Many establishments are still run by the children and grandchildren of the resort’s founders, who host vacationers in a family-friendly atmosphere. Despite recent developments, La Rosière has remained committed to preservation by limiting the number of beds to 15,000.

Perched on a mountainside, La Rosière offers a panoramic, south-facing view over Haute-Tarentaise. From dawn to dusk, the sun shines on visitors of all ages. Located just a few kilometers from Mont Blanc and near the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, La Rosière enjoys favorable weather conditions. These unique features guarantee optimal snow coverage throughout the season, which next winter will run from Saturday, December 14, 2024, to Monday, April 21, 2025 (Easter Monday).

La Rosière never fails to surprise with its authentic Savoyard village charm. The local urban planning policy (PLU) aims to regulate new constructions in order to preserve the architectural and landscape harmony of the area. Throughout the commune, the use of traditional materials is required : wooden window frames, masonry chimneys, slate roofs, and more.

This winter, La Rosière celebrates the 40th anniversary of Espace San Bernardo, a one-of-a-kind ski area connecting France and Italy. Since 1984, this domain has offered snow sports enthusiasts the unique opportunity to ski between two countries, enjoying a rich diversity of landscapes and cultures.

Espace San Bernardo is a unique ski area in the Northern Alps. Its 154 km of slopes connect La Rosière in France to La Thuile in Italy. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier, a freerider, or a ski tourer, Espace San Bernardo caters to all levels and desires.

This unique French-Italian ski area has existed for 40 years, yet it has always captivated locals. Of all the ski resorts in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, only La Rosière offers a gateway to Italy. Before 1984, reaching the Italian slopes was quite an expedition: from Le Fort de la Redoute Ruinée, skiers had to navigate an off-piste route, then hike back up before finally gliding toward the pass. In 1983, an unusual initiative was introduced with great success: skiers were pulled up the valley by a snowcat.

The Chardonnet chairlift is a symbol of the France-Italy connection, which was first established in 1984. To mark the 40th anniversary of Espace San Bernardo, the lift is getting a makeover: the old fixed three-seater chairlift is being replaced by a detachable six-seater. This €9 million investment by the Ski Area aims to improve the experience for skiers in several ways:

  • With a capacity of 3,000 people per hour and a speed of 5.5 meters per second, the new lift will help manage skier traffic more efficiently in this area.
  • Previously, accessing Italy was challenging for some beginner skiers, as the route involved a single red (intermediate) run. With the new lift, skiers can now ride it downhill, making the descent more accessible.
  • Compared to the old model, the new lift minimizes visual impact with fewer pylons and seats, saves 5-8% energy, and reduces oil consumption thanks to its Direct Drive motor system.

The Connection Open Until the End of the Season

Another gift for this anniversary season : the entire Espace San Bernardo will remain open until April 21, 2025. In the past, the Italian side of the domain would close earlier than 07 the French side. This extended opening of the connection will delight vacationers, who can also enjoy exceptional discounts during Easter week and weekend: for the last week, the Ultimo Package allows you to enjoy 9 days of vacation for the price of 7. Buy a stay from Saturday 12 to Saturday 19, and overnight stays, ski lessons and packages are free for Sunday 20 and Monday 21!

Located at an altitude of 1,850 meters, just a few kilometers from Mont Blanc and near the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, La Rosière enjoys favorable weather conditions. These unique features guarantee optimal snow coverage throughout the season, which run from Saturday 14 December to Monday 21 April.
