Loon Announces Largest Snowmaking Investment In The State & More Upgrades For Winter

As fall settles in, Loon is excited to share the preparations underway for the 59th winter season.

Over 100 Hydrants

The most powerful snowmaking system in the state has gotten even stronger. Loon has made the largest investment in snowmaking of any resort in the state of New Hampshire this year.

Teams have been busy installing over 100 new semi-automated snowmaking hydrants on Loon Peak and North Peak trails, including Haulback, Brookway, and Bear Claw Extension. They didn’t stop there—we’ve also expanded snowmaking coverage at South Peak trails including Cruiser, Ripsaw, Escape Route, and Chipper. Additionally, snowmaking has been installed on Upper and Lower Stinger—completing snowmaking coverage at Timbertown. Together, nine trails will see improved snowmaking coverage—a win for skiers and riders, particularly in the early season.

The water intake system at the Old River Pumphouse has also been replaced and upgraded. This will pump more water into the snowmaking system, meaning there is capability for even more snow production.

Octagon Lodge Patio Redesign

Significant upgrades have been made to the Octagon Lodge patio, enhancing the overall guest experience. The newly redesigned area features stone pavers and improved entryways. The Paul Bunyan Room, a popular après-ski location, now boasts improved access to its deck thanks to the installation of a dual staircase.

New Webcams

Another notable improvement includes the installation of two live webcams, offering guests real-time views of some of the most popular spots on the mountain. The newly installed camera at Octagon Lodge provides panning views of the upgraded patio area, Seven Brothers, and the White Mountain Express Gondola. Additionally, a new camera at the top of Kancamagus 8 gives viewers a close look at the West Basin, capturing skiers and riders as they descend down Rampasture. Plans are in place to install two more cameras during the season.
