Davos Klosters Bergbahnen Works On Intermediate Entrance For The Carjol-Usser Isch chairlift

The Carjöl chairlift will have a new access so that you can go up the mountain directly from the Carjöl middle station.

Starting position: chairlift with central exit

The Carjöl 2-seater chairlift takes snow sports enthusiasts from the Bolgen area to the Jakobshorn ski area in seven minutes. The special feature is the middle exit, which is mainly used by beginners, children and snow sports schools to get to the blue practice slope. Up until now, only the exit was possible at this middle station. After the chairlift has been rebuilt, guests will also be able to board from the 2024/25 winter season.

More safety through separation of snow sports enthusiasts

With the opening of the new valley run and black piste no. 42, the Carjöler chairlift has become more popular. After skiing down piste no. 42, experienced skiers and snowboarders ski down the blue practice piste to the valley station and from there return to the mountain. This means that the blue practice piste is more popular and there are longer waiting times at the valley station.

The new access point at the middle station relieves the pressure on the practice slope and the lower part of the lift. Users of the black slope are now transported back up the mountain from the middle station. Snow sports enthusiasts on the practice slope leave the lift there and leave their chair. Beginners and experienced snow sports enthusiasts are separated by the new valley run and the access at the middle station. This reduces the risk of collisions on the Gämpen valley run and the practice slope on the Bolgen.

The new valley run

Piste no. 42, also known as "Davos Vertical", is the new valley run on the Jakobshorn. The black piste leads from Usser Isch through the forest to Carjöl and to Davos Platz. With the new entrance at the Carjöl middle station, it becomes an attractive black piste for any time of day.

Implementation: Construction work in the summer months

In order to enable access at the middle station, the following work has been carried out by employees of Inauen-Schätti AG and Davos Klosters Bergbahnen AG since July 2024:

access to the middle station
Extension of the station along the uphill rope axis by 12 meters.
The existing rope line will be lowered, for which four supports will be demolished and replaced by three new supports.
A concrete floor slab with frost barriers will be built for the new command room, from which the new entrance will be monitored.
The station cover of the middle station will be renovated and refreshed with a new coat of paint.
adjustments to the terrain

In order to make the exit possible, the terrain must be removed on a large scale. The resulting excavated material will be used for the necessary terrain adjustments for the exit and entry.

Due to the adjustments to the terrain, various utility lines have to be laid lower.
At the same time, the existing switch line, which currently runs over the supports, will be laid underground along the entire route. This reduces the risk of birds colliding with this line.
New control and drive

Replacing the control system with drive with a more modern control system. The system will then be technically up to date and safety will be increased.

Commissioning at the end of November 2024

The Davos Klosters Bergbahnen have been operating the Carjöl 2-seater chairlift since 1995. A major overhaul of the system, including replacement of the control system, will be carried out at the same time as the new intermediate entrance is being built. The 2-seater chairlift with the new access will open in time for the 2024/25 winter season and will be able to continue to transport snow sports enthusiasts to the Jakobshorn ski area for many years to come.

The ride on the Carjöler chairlift enables many mountain adventures: be it for winter hikers who stroll around Lake Fuxä or for connoisseurs who stop off at the mountain restaurants Fuxägufer or Clavadeler Alp. But beginners who are just learning snow sports on the blue slope or experienced skiers and snowboarders who take the "Davos Vertical" run from the summit to the valley also like to use the Carjöler chairlift. In just seven minutes and in the fresh air, everyone can get up the mountain and back down again.
