Andermatt-Sedrun: New Construction Of Val Val chairlifts. Building Permit Application Submitted For Spring 2025
Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG has submitted a planning application to the Federal Office of Transport (BAV) to replace the Val Val – Calmut and Val Val – Cuolm chairlifts, which were built in 1988.
Construction of the new facilities is scheduled to begin after the 24/25 winter season.
The new, modern facilities will noticeably increase comfort for guests and remove a bottleneck in the flow of guests in the Andermatt-Sedrun ski area connection. With the new detachable 6-seater chairlifts, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG can double the transport capacity and significantly shorten travel times. The planned improvements will enable the lifts, which currently mainly serve as a connecting cableway between Cuolm Val and Oberalppass, to be used as an activity facility in the future.
The renovation will improve comfort for guests and at the same time significantly increase efficiency. The transport capacity of the two facilities will be increased from 1,200 people to 2,400 people per hour each. These are two 6-seater chairlifts from Garaventa. In addition to a new valley station, the project also includes two new mountain stations. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025, with commissioning for the 2025/26 winter season.
The fact that the Val Val valley area has been in danger level 1 (red zone) since 2019 means that additional avalanche protection measures are required on both valley slopes
