TRM Completes Successful Modernization Of Snowmaking Systems At Sugarloaf
Sugarloaf Mountain in the US state of Maine is one of the most renowned ski resorts in North America. With an altitude of 1,288 meters and a ski area of over 1,360 hectares, the resort offers numerous recreational opportunities not only in winter, but also in summer activities such as hiking, mountain biking and golf.
As part of long-term development plans focused on sustainability and expansion, Sugarloaf faced the challenge of installing a modern and sustainable snow system.
For this project, the company relied on the many years of experience and quality of TRM and its exclusive North American partner PNP Supply LLC. This partnership proved to be crucial for the successful implementation of the project, which involved installing a 6.5 km long pipeline made of TRM DN 100 to 300 ductile iron pipes with a pressure rating of PN 63 to modernize the resort's snow system.
The choice of TRM pipes was based on strict criteria that were of great importance to Sugarloaf: safety, durability, reliability and sustainability. TRM's ductile iron pipe technology offered all of these advantages and optimally met the requirements of the project.
Thanks to the VRS-T connection technology, the pipes could be installed quickly and efficiently – an important factor for the successful completion of the project under difficult conditions.
During the installation phase the project faced extreme weather conditions. New England experienced heavy rains that made the work significantly more difficult. Nevertheless, thanks to the robust and easy-to-handle TRM pipe systems, the team was able to continue installation without the need for special equipment or techniques. This resulted in up to 1,300 feet of pipe being installed per day, even in adverse conditions.
Despite the challenges, the project was completed on time and successfully. TRM's ductile iron pipes have proven to be extremely reliable and will provide Boyne Resorts - which owns Sugarloaf - with sustainable, long-lasting solutions for years to come. In total, PNP Supply has installed more than 50,000 feet of TRM pipes at various resorts in the group, including Sugarloaf, Sunday River and Pleasant Mountain.
