From Verona To The Whole World - LEITNER Opens High-Tech Logistics Center
The global logistics center of LEITNER Customer Service has opened in Oppeano, Italy. In the future, up to 180,000 material movements per year will be handled on 21,000 square meters. Anton Seeber, CEO of LEITNER: "This will improve our efficiency and sustainability on a global level."
The recently opened LEITNER Customer Service Global Logistics Center in Oppeano near Verona is the new global logistics center of the Italian cable car manufacturer LEITNER. With the latest logistics technology, up to 10,000 pallets can be stored in an area of 21,000 square meters. From here, materials are shipped all over the world, from America to the Far East.
The logistics center is just a stone's throw from the motorway, railway line and Verona airport. A location that sets new standards in terms of technical equipment and is able to handle up to 180,000 material movements per year. The project, in which more than five million euros were invested, is LEITNER's response to the growing need for optimal spare parts and material management due to the constantly increasing demand. "The new logistics center in Oppeano should not only be seen as a spatial and technological innovation, but also as an innovation in our process management," explained Anton Seeber, CEO of LEITNER, "because our goal is not only to increase the volume of work, but above all to improve our efficiency and sustainability on a global level."
Technological Innovation
In addition to the considerable logistics capacity and the strategic importance for the company's global development, LEITNER's new logistics center also sets new standards in terms of technology. The logistics site in Verona has numerous innovative solutions. These include a modern SAP warehouse management system for improved traceability management and automated logistics processes. Instead of dealing with codes and paper, the latest generation of scanners and printers are used. The new center in Oppeano also meets the highest structural standards: the warehouse is equipped with high-quality, earthquake-proof shelves for 10,000 pallet spaces.
data-centric
With improved data management, a redefinition of packaging, optimized serial number and batch tracking, and separate logistics processes for incoming and outgoing goods including quality control, a new LEITNER standard is to be set. Overall, up to 80 percent of logistics processes can be digitized in the future, a significant contribution to optimized, modern warehouse management. This creates the basis for the automation of many processes, which will become a reality in the near future. Last but not least, great attention is also being paid to energy efficiency and sustainability, which have always been among the strengths of the South Tyrolean company: the external roof of the logistics center in Verona is equipped with photovoltaic panels to generate clean energy on site and use it for operations.
