For more than 75 years, Aspen Snowmass has been a sanctuary to inspire the mind, body and spirit through its world-class terrain, art and culture. In 1947, a simple boat tow - pulling eight skiers and their wooden planks up Roch Run - evolved into the resort’s first chair lift and Aspen Mountain was born. This marked the start of what would become a history of ingenuity, legacy and skiing at Aspen Snowmass, a resort that started as one mountain and expanded to four.

Established in 1946, Aspen Skiing Company, also known as Aspen Snowmass, owns and operates four mountains—Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk—creating premium, sustainable and transformative experiences in recreation, culture, and nature. In addition, the company runs the award-winning Aspen Snowmass Ski & Snowboard School, Four Mountain Sports rental and retail shops, and a collection of sustainably-sourced on-mountain food & beverage outlets. For small town charm - explore Aspen

Aspen seamlessly blends laid-back mountain living with vibrant cosmopolitan flair. Known for its chic boutiques, gourmet dining, and world-renowned arts and culture scene, Aspen rivals major cities with its iconic venues such as the Wheeler Opera House and the Aspen Art Museum. Visitors can enjoy new dining hotspots including The Boat Tow and Sant Ambroeus and stay at MOLLIE Aspen, which was awarded a Michelin Key within its first six months of opening. 

For families - explore Snowmass Village

Snowmass Village, situated at the base of Snowmass Mountain and just a short drive from Aspen, offers a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. With wide-open slopes and plenty of beginner-friendly areas, Snowmass is perfect for a ski-in/ski-out holiday that’s all about the slopes. The village vibe is welcoming and focused on outdoor activities, with an ice rink at its heart and free s’mores every afternoon during the winter months. Snowmass also provides excellent family-friendly accommodations such as Limelight Hotel Snowmass, which features an indoor rock climbing wall and games centre as well as fabulous dining options including Alpin Room and Elk Camp. 

Four Mountains

For expert skiers and new terrain - Aspen Mountain Open 28 November 2024 - 20 April 2025

Often called "Ajax" by locals, Aspen Mountain is famed for its challenging, expert-level terrain with no beginner runs and lively après-ski scene. Situated right in the heart of Aspen, it caters to experienced skiers with steep pitches, moguls, and breathtaking views of the town below. Aspen Mountain’s recent terrain expansion, Hero’s, increased the skiable acreage by over 20% and added more than 150 acres of new chutes, glades and trails in the resort’s most significant addition since 1985. 

For expansive runs and something for everyone - Snowmass Open 28 November 2024 - 20 April 2025

Larger than the three other mountains combined, Snowmass offers something for everyone, from beginners to advanced skiers, with the widest variety of terrain. Its expansive slopes, family-friendly areas, and ample intermediate runs make it especially well-suited to families and mixed-ability groups. This season, Snowmass will welcome the new high-speed quad lift, Coney Express, improving access and reducing base area congestion. For those interested in experiencing the mountain, but not on skis, there is Elk Camp, which features winter tubing, the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster and Ullr Nights twice a month.

For beginners and families - Buttermilk Open 15 December 2024 - 6 April 2025

Known as a beginner’s haven, Buttermilk has gentle slopes, wide-open terrain and a welcoming, family-friendly reputation. This mountain also hosts the X Games, taking place from 23-25 January 2025, attracting a young and lively crowd each year. With accessible runs and an outstanding ski school, Buttermilk is ideal for those new to skiing or snowboarding. Buttermilk’s Base Area underwent a recent transformation, with additions including a 9,000+ square-foot fully electric skier services building and a new bar area, The Backyard, with heated outdoor seating and a warming menu. 

For skiing like a local - Aspen Highlands Open 14 December 2024 - 13 April 2025

Aspen Highlands is a local favourite with varied terrain and a more relaxed crowd, ideal for those seeking a rugged, adventurous experience. The legendary Highland Bowl, with its steep chutes and expert-level slopes, is a major draw for seasoned skiers. Though it also offers some intermediate runs, Aspen Highlands maintains a more laid-back atmosphere, prioritising serious skiing over tourist crowds.
