Arizona Snowbowl Marks Earliest Opening Day In Resort History

Arizona Snowbowl is thrilled to kick off the 2024-25 ski season on Friday, November 8, opening two weeks ahead of schedule and marking the earliest opening day in the resort’s 86-year history.

Initially scheduled to open on November 22, the resort is able to open two weeks early thanks to several early-season snowstorms and extensive snowmaking efforts. Arizona Snowbowl’s 2023-24 season was the resort's longest season to date, starting on November 17, 2023, and running through June 1, 2024.

“We’re excited to welcome everyone back to Arizona Snowbowl for the 24-25 ski season,” said Angie Grubb, Marketing Manager at Arizona Snowbowl. “Not only are we opening two weeks early, but we’re also unveiling exciting capital improvements, including a new fixed-grip quad chairlift and four new ski trails, expanding our beginner terrain on the mountain. Join us on Friday, November 8, as we celebrate this historic opening and the start of another incredible winter season!”

New Terrain and Upgrades for the 2024-25 Ski Season

New for the 2024-25 season, Arizona Snowbowl unveils the Aspen Chairlift, a brand new fixed-grip quad lift, which services beginner terrain at the resort. The new lift replaces an older double chairlift, which was the oldest lift on the mountain dating back to the 1960s. The new Aspen Chairlift significantly reduces ride times and more than doubles uphill capacity.

The Aspen Chairlift will service four new trails: Giddy Up, Chipmunk Chase, Lupine Lane, and Jackrabbit, expanding the beginner ski terrain within the current USFS Special Use Permit area. In addition, trail maintenance teams have been working hard all summer, removing dead and down trees to reduce forest fuel loading and enhance skier safety by clearing snags and ground obstacles. Snowbowl works in partnership with the US Forest Service to help maintain a healthy forest.

Opening Day Details

The celebration begins at 9 am with a first chair ceremony at the Arizona Gondola, offering skiing and snowboarding on Spur Catwalk, Lower Bowl, Log Jam, Wild Turkey, and Round Up trails. The Agassiz Lodge will provide food, beverages, and retail, and Hart Prairie Lodge will be open for guest services and rental pick-up. Opening day terrain is best suited for advanced skiers and riders, and additional lifts and trails will open as conditions allow.

Safety is a top priority when early-season conditions exist. Arizona Snowbowl kindly reminds guests to always know and adhere to the NSAA “Your Responsibility Code.” Following opening day, the resort will operate daily from November 8, 2024, through late spring, conditions permitting, with lifts running from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.
