Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen Wins Special Prize For Digitalization

Traffic searching for parking spaces is one of the biggest challenges for tourist destinations. A digital solution has been created for this in the two-country Oberstdorf/Kleinwalsertal region: With the help of smart and fully automatic parking space detection, visitors are guided better and faster to a free parking space. For this, the project received the special digitalization award this year. The special thing about this system is that the data is recorded on site using cameras, radar and barrier technology.

They are then processed using a specially developed software solution. Before they arrive in Oberstdorf or Kleinwalsertal, guests can find out about the parking situation online and live and find a free parking space of their choice. This relieves the burden on local residents, reduces emissions caused by traffic searching for parking spaces and ensures that guests have a relaxed start to their mountain day.

A total of 35 projects and initiatives applied for the ADAC Tourism Award Bavaria 2024, eight of them made it to the final round and were allowed to present their concept to the expert jury.

“We are very pleased that we were able to convince the jury with our digital parking guidance system. As a mountain railway, we take responsibility for the further development of the region. Sustainability in all areas is extremely important to us because we want to preserve the natural habitat. With the digital parking guidance system, we focus on reducing emissions such as noise and exhaust gases as well as on travel comfort when guests arrive. For a region worth living in and positive mountain experiences right from the start,” emphasizes Johannes Krieg, board member of Oberstdorf • Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen. He accepted the award together with Dominik Scholz, project manager, from Michaela Kaniber, Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, in Nuremberg.
