The new aerial tram began operations at the end of November. After around 60 years of operation, the previous aerial tramway was dismantled in mid-June 2022 and construction work on the replacement system began. In collaboration with the cable car manufacturer Garaventa AG (Doppelmayr Group), the numerous technical challenges were solved perfectly and the cable car was handed over to Zermatt Bergbahnen AG.
In addition to various technical innovations in comfort and technology (e.g. new, noise-reduced rope technology), the first support after the valley station should also be mentioned. This support is very impressively designed and stands out thanks to its unique, magnifying glass-shaped support construction. This construction allows passengers to view the Matterhorn as if through the “fictitious glass of a magnifying glass.”
It is also possible to complete the “rooftop ride” with the new cable car in the summer months. Guests can enjoy the view from the roof of the cable car cabin paired with a fresh breeze.
