Summer Conference Of ‘Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways’ Takes Place In Salzkammergut
The whole of Europe is currently looking at the Salzkammergut. 23 municipalities in the inner-Alpine, rural area are joining together to form a cultural capital. Even apart from the art and cultural events that will take place in 2024, the Salzkammergut has exciting mountain offers to offer its holiday guests every summer. These were also the focus of the 2024 summer conference of the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways.
The Salzkammergut attracts with family and panoramic experiences on the mountain
The summer conference has been a fixed date for the members of the quality initiative of the cable car association in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce for years. They exchange ideas about future strategies for the mountain summer and explore the summer mountain offers of the host region. From 3rd to 4th July, the Dachstein Salzkammergut cable cars presented their offers on the Dachstein Krippenstein and on the Grünberg am Traunsee. From the cave world (giant ice cave, mammoth and Koppenbrüller cave), viewing platforms (5fingers, world heritage spiral), attractions such as the Dachstein shark, the Grünbergbande adventure trail, the Salzkammergut treetop path, summer toboggan run to an adventure playground with a low ropes course, there is a lot to discover in the region. Over 90 cable car employees from 7 federal states traveled to the conference.
Managing Director and Board Member of the Dachstein Salzkammergut Cable Cars, Rupert Schiefer, is delighted with the large number of visitors from his cable car colleagues. Meeting with colleagues from the federal states is very important for us in order to exchange mutual knowledge and learn new things. We are particularly proud that our Krippenstein cable cars have been awarded the seal of approval for the Best Austrian Summer Cable Cars since this year with the Panorama & Nature Experience theme world and the Grünberg since 2023 with the Family theme world. The summer offer is becoming increasingly important for our guests and we are pleased to be able to offer them a comprehensive and natural experience with our Grünberg and Krippenstein cable cars."
The seal of approval stands for quality, cooperation and sustainable regional development
"Varied experiences on the mountain are crucial for summer guests to choose a destination and sometimes even use the cable car several times during their vacation," says Kornel Grundner, spokesman for the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways. Particular focus is placed on creating authentic nature experiences that strengthen regional added value and at the same time make an ecological and social contribution.
Hiking is still the main reason for a summer holiday in the mountains. At the same time, holidaymakers want entertainment in the mountains - be it through themed hiking trails, bike trails, mountain carts, water playgrounds, yoga on the mountain or other things. "At the summer conference, our members exchange ideas on an equal footing about their success drivers and give each other tips on how they can continuously improve the offer. This cooperative approach to one another is one of the main reasons why our guests' summer mountain holidays are an unforgettable experience," adds Grundner.

About the seal of approval “Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways”
The seal of quality for the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways is an initiative of the Cable Cars Association (Austrian Chamber of Commerce) and stands for quality, cooperation and sustainable regional development. The seal of quality brings together the experts and pioneers of domestic summer mountain tourism and now has 79 members with 96 themed mountains. Only companies that meet at least 100 quality criteria become one of the Best Austrian Summer Mountain Railways. Specialized in five themed worlds - adventure, family, panorama & nature experience, enjoyment, art & culture - members must pass a recertification every three years. A varied range of experiences is guaranteed - not least because of this, the seal of quality has now become an important decision-making criterion when holidaymakers choose their destination.
