It's Dumping Snow In Australia !

Where season 23 was ... lousy, winter 24 has started with big snowfalls in Australia.

Snow lovers are thrilled with the biggest winter storm of the season currently hitting Mt Buller and dumping 25+cms of snow across the mountain.

The snow started overnight and has continued all morning. The forecasters are tipping as much as 50cms or more out of the storm.

Conditions are staying cold in resort hovering at -3 C with a feels like wind chill of closer to -10C. Gusty winds and deep snow delayed the opening of some upper mountain lifts today and after hours of digging and de-icing Summit and Koflers lifts are now rolling to the delight of storm chasing skiers and snowboarders.

“This is exactly what we need,” explained resort spokesperson Rhylla Morgan this morning. “Earlier in the week we received 22cms and this solid dump is going to transform the experience in resort. The depths are creeping around the 80cms mark and the flakes are falling beautifully.”

After a snowy week in Falls Creek, wtheyre thrilled to announce an additional 33cm of fresh snow overnight (Friday night). With heavy snowfall continuing throughout today, they’ve accumulated another 12-15cm, with official numbers to be posted tomorrow morning. This brings total 7-day snowfall to well over 70cm!

Following a slow start to the season, winter has truly arrived, promising excellent coverage for many weeks ahead.

Backcountry guide Macca from Falls Creek Guides shared his excitement: “Our season is here to stay – we’ve got enough snow to last until September!”

Looking ahead, they’re expecting another significant snowstorm this Friday night, with forecasts predicting over 30cm of fresh powder. With plenty of available accommodation, a fully ski-in-ski-out village, and more terrain opening soon, now is the perfect time to book your holiday in Falls Creek.

“With big crowds hitting the slopes again weekend it’s timely to remind guests to pre-book their resort entry permit before leaving home to avoid disappointment. We have increased car parking capacity this season but when a big storm hits the car parks fill quickly with snow lovers coming from all around” said Sarah Watt, Head of Marketing & Visitor Experience at Falls Creek Alpine Resort.

“Skiers and snowboarders have been patiently waiting for significant snowfall for deeper cover and for our mountain operations team to progressively open more terrain – and it feels like this it’s finally arrived. The hooting and hollering around the slopes is great to hear and local operators are thrilled to have phones ringing and emails coming in as people jump on the opportunity for a winter escape.”
