USA Nordic Villach World Cups Recap – Women’s Ski Jumping

Women’s Ski Jumping wrapped up the World Cup events in Villach, Austria, earlier on 4th January. Annika Belshaw was able to earn her first World Cup points of the season, placing 30th overall in today’s Individual HS98, after coming back from a knee injury that sidelined her for the start of the 2023/2024 World Cup circuit.

The action in Villach got started on January 3rd, as athletes started the day with the HS98 Qualification. Belshaw was the first to qualify, placing 31st overall with a jump of 81.0 meters for 92.8 points. Paige Jones was the next to qualify in 40th, as she went 80.5 meters for 87.5 points. Sam Macuga placed 48th overall, jumping to 74.5 meters for 77.1 points, as she was unable to qualify for the Individual HS98 World Cup. Athletes then took the hill again later that day, as they competed in the Individual HS98 World Cup. Jones placed 37th overall, after she put together an 83.0 meter jump for 90.5 points, with Belshaw coming in 39th, after going 80.5 meters for 87.0 points. Both athletes were unable to advance to the final round of action.

Women’s Ski Jumping then up competition earlier today in Villach, as athletes competed in the final HS98 Qualification and Individual HS98 World Cup events. Belshaw qualified in 30th place, going 83.0 meters for 94.6 points. Jones was the final athlete to qualify in 40th, as she went 80.0 meters for 87.5 points. Macuga ended her day in 53rd, after jumping to 74.5 meters for 76.0 points. During the Individual HS98 World Cup, Jones jumped to 78.5 meters for 85.1 points, ending her day in 38th place as she was unable to advance to the final round. In the first round of action, Belshaw put together an 81.5 meter jump for 99.6 points, and followed up with a 79.5 meter jump for 99.1 points in the final round (198.7 total points). This landed Belshaw in 30th place, as she scored her first World Cup points of the season.

Women’s Ski Jumping will be back in action next week, as athletes will travel to Sapporo, Japan, to compete in two Individual World Cup events from January 12th – 14th.
