Pats Peak Patroller Awarded Senior Alpine Patroller Status
Pats Peak is proud to announce that Owen Pelletier, Assistant Patrol Director at Pats Peak, recently completed the requirements for full Senior Alpine Patroller.
The Senior programs are designed to give the patroller additional skills in scene management including a skiing and tobogganing module. Additionally, Pelletier had to complete elective requirements including CPR Instructor, OEC/OET Instructor and Instructor Development. The process to become a Senior Alpine Patroller takes place over multiple seasons and requires a time component above and beyond the normal commitment for patrolling.
The goal of the Senior Program is to encourage all patrollers to improve their ski patrol knowledge and skills through a program of continuing education and evaluation. Through the Senior Program, patrollers develop increased ability and confidence with the goal of improving their own personal service to the skiing public. The Senior Program has been designed to provide multiple forums where patrollers can enhance personal skiing/snowboarding, toboggan-handling proficiency, improve their ability to manage OEC related medical trauma, and expand their overall patrolling knowledge and skills. The skills learned promote confidence in dealing with more complicated first aid scenarios involving multiple injuries and patients. In addition, the program prepares patrollers for leadership roles within the National Ski Patrol. For more information on the Senior Program: www.nsp.org.
Over the past several years, 18 Pats Peak Ski Patrollers have completed the full Senior Alpine Patroller program and nine patrollers have Half Senior Alpine Patroller status with either the Senior Outdoor Emergency Care or Outdoor Emergency Transportation (ski and toboggan) modules completed.
