More Than 1 Million Guests Visit The Jungfraujoch
Jungfraubahn Holding AG announced in an ad hoc announcement in accordance with Article 53 of the Listing Rules that it will record a further significant increase in the number of guests in 2023 compared to the previous year. 1,007,000 guests visited the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, which practically corresponds to the pre-pandemic level. In the adventure mountains, the First and Harderbahn were able to set new record numbers and the Lauterbrunnen-Mürren mountain railway achieved numbers like before the pandemic. The start of the 2023/2024 winter season was pleasing.
In 2023, 1,007,000 guests visited the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. That is 61.1 percent more than in 2022 and only 4.6 percent less than in the record year 2019. The increase in frequency last year developed into an increase from month to month. A strong increase was particularly noticeable among guests from Southeast Asia, India and the USA, and the number of tourists from China and Japan also increased again in the second half of the year. In addition to the numerous individual travelers, there were also increasing numbers of groups on the Jungfrau Railway Group's trains. There was still a lack of around 120,000 guests among the tour groups, which is primarily due to the Chinese and Japanese markets.
The number of guests at the adventure mountains also developed positively. The Harderbahn was able to report an increase of 29.4 percent compared to the previous year with 825,200 ascents and descents, thus achieving the highest number of visitors in history. At Firstbahn there was a total increase of 27.3 percent with 842,300 visitors. The Lauterbrunnen-Mürren (BLM) mountain railway had 451,900 guests. That is 23.8% more guests than in the previous year, although the railway had stopped operations several times for a few weeks during 2023 due to the completion of the overall renovation work on the adhesion railway between Grütschalp and Mürren.
In 2023, over 2 million guests traveled with the Eiger Express for the first time, 2,003,900 on the route between Grindelwald Terminal and the Eiger Glacier.
The 2023/2024 winter sports season started on December 2nd, 2023 with continuous winter sports operations. During the advance sale of the Top4 ski pass (partner offer from Adelboden-Lenk, Gstaad, Jungfrau Ski Region and Meiringen-Hasliberg), over 32,000 Top4 ski passes were sold, around 1,000 fewer passes at the advance sale price than for the 2022/2023 winter season.
From the start of the season to December 31, 2023, the Jungfrau Ski Region registered 207,800 skier visits. Compared to the same period a year ago, this represents an increase of 28.1%, making it the best start to a season in history. The Jungfrau Ski Region is a cooperation product in which the Jungfrau Railway Group has a sales share of over 60%.
