Dachstein: Austria's Highest Construction Site Is Right On Schedule
There is currently a lot of activity at the mountain station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn. But where day trippers and mountain sports enthusiasts are normally found, craftsmen from a wide variety of professions have been bustling around since the beginning of September. The conversion and renovation work at the Dachstein mountain station is right on schedule and the building was sealed in time for Christmas - the focus during the winter months is now on the interior work. In order to recognize the commitment of everyone involved, this milestone was duly celebrated on December 14th as part of a “Winterfest celebration”.
“A construction site at this height is anything but ordinary. Both the logistical challenge and the work under sometimes extreme weather conditions are extremely demanding. Smooth coordination is essential. Today we would like to express our thanks to everyone who is fully committed to this project of the century,” said Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen Managing Director Dir. Georg Bliem.
A lot has happened on Austria's highest construction site since September 6th. Initially, the entire building was gutted except for the steel frame. The new 1000 m² glass facade was then quickly installed. The spacious roof terraces have been completed and the roof area of around 1000 m² has been successfully sealed. At the same time, extensive renovations were started in the kitchen and restaurant areas. During the winter months, the interior work, such as drywall, tiling and carpentry work, needs to be done.
