Solitude Mountain Completes Two Major Projects
Solitude Mountain Resort continues to up its game by investing over 16 million dollars in capital improvements this year. Two major projects were completed within the last month, the Eagle Express 6-pack, and a newly rebuilt Yurt. The goal of both these projects was to improve guest experience on mountain.
Eagle Express 6-pack
The newly rebuilt Eagle Express 6-pack provides guests with a reliable experience that also keeps more terrain open during deep snow years.
Built in 1989, Eagle Express was the first high-speed detachable chairlift installed in Utah providing access to signature terrain such as Sunshine Bowl, Serenity, and Challenger. It was built by two different builders who are no longer active in the industry, making it difficult to source parts. This led to more downtime and maintenance challenges. The builder of the new lift also built others on the mountain meaning some parts will be interchangeable and more likely to be on-hand. This allows Solitude to maintain the lift proactively without service disruption.
The new lift also has taller towers that make it easier to groom trails under the lift even when snow is deep. Previously, some areas under the lift would need to be closed due to low clearance.
Another bright note, the chairs from the old lift were auctioned off for a good cause. “All proceeds from the auction of the chairs will go towards the Solitude Fund, a new initiative created by the resort that staff will be able to access in times of unexpected hardship,” the resort shared in a recent press release. Roughly $150,000 was raised for the fund.
The Yurt
Craving a unique dining experience mid-mountain? The newly rebuilt Yurt is fresh, spacious, and homey and offers multi-course dinners along with a range of craft beer, wine, and cocktails. The menu features hearty dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. If you visited a while ago you may have noticed the kitchen sat in the middle of the space. Now the kitchen has its own space behind the yurt opening it up for more spacious seating. The real fun is getting to The Yurt! You have a few options, a moonlit stroll up the ski trail, a guided snowshoe tour, or for those needing assistance, rides are available.
The Yurt is open from 5pm Thursday to Sunday until April 14. It may also be booked for special events. Seating is limited so be sure to book a reservation by calling 385.282.7155.
Both projects demonstrate Solitude Mountain's ongoing commitment to providing the best guest experience possible. In the case of the Yurt, they playfully combined outdoor adventure with fine dining. Lots to like about that!
