7th Annual Victorian Backcountry Festival Set for Hotham, Augsut 31st, September 1st

The wait is finally over, and the organisers want to thank you all for your patience and enthusiasm! The season is shaping up wonderfully with consistently low temperatures, and we’re excited about what’s ahead for the rest of the season and the VBCF. Plus, they’ve added a variety of new tours for you to enjoy this year!

During both weekends, they’re offering a diverse range of sessions: Split, Ski, Mix, and Women Only, across three skill levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Additionally, don’t miss our Youth session led by the Thredbo guides on Saturday. For more details and to book your spot, click the ticket button below.

Backcountry Rider Level Requirement

  • First Timer: Confident and controlled on all blue runs, groomed and ungroomed. Can safely respond to changes of surface conditions and obstacles. Experience carrying a daypack on short adventures, such as bushwalking.
  • Intermediate: Confident on black runs and ungroomed blue runs and can safely respond to changes in snow surface conditions. Comfortable both on and off-piste and T-Bars in resort. Previous backcountry experience with the ability to respond effectively to changes in snow conditions. Comfortable carrying a backpack and touring all day.
  • Advanced: Ability to comfortably ski/board ‘double black’ terrain in resort and have controlled approaches to changes in snow surface conditions both on and off-piste. Experienced in touring and managing a backpack on steep descents and climbs. Confident navigating technical and challenging terrain.
