Snow Space Salzburg Receives VCO Mobility Prize
The VCÖ Mobility Prize, Austria's largest competition for sustainable transport, is held once a year. This year, Snow Space Salzburg is pleased to be one of the winners in the state of Salzburg with the “Ruck Zug to us!” project.
Ruck train to us – by bus and train to Snow Space Salzburg
The “Ruck Zug to us” project is the result of a cooperation between the Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen, the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund and the state of Salzburg. Since the 2022/23 winter season, every guest from the state of Salzburg who buys a ski or ski tour ticket to Snow Space Salzburg in Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann/Alpendorf can travel by bus and train free of charge. More than half of the users used the offer at least twice or more in the first season, which already indicates a smooth process. “We are at the beginning of a change in attitude, and many people still don’t see the advantages, such as free time management or a stress- and traffic-free journey to skiing fun,” says MMag. König, board member of Snow Space Salzburg Bergbahnen AG about the first winter season.
Therefore, the offer of comfortable and free travel by public transport will also be offered in the coming winter season, thus taking another step towards becoming a climate-neutral ski area by the 2025/26 winter season. “Winning the VCÖ Mobility Prize further encourages us and shows that we are on the right path. Our commitment to offering a climate-friendly travel alternative is recognized and accepted in society,” says CEO Wolfgang Hettegger with delight. The project is also well positioned with regard to the tunnel chain renovation on the A10 Tauern motorway: “With Ruck Zug coming to us, we can offer our guests from the Salzburg area an initial, already successfully tested, measure against the traffic jam chaos on the A10.
“Sustainable mobility of the future needs creative, innovative ideas and committed people to implement them. The VCÖ Mobility Prize projects show that we are on the right track in Salzburg. We are particularly pleased that public transport can often make a contribution to climate-friendly projects,” explains Johannes Gfrerer, Managing Director of Salzburger Verkehrsverbund GmbH.
