Laax Issues Where To Say 'Factfile'

LAAX, the leading resort in the Swiss Alps for snowboarding and sustainability offers slopes where avid freestyle skiers and snowboarders as well as beginners can come together to enjoy the mountains.

LAAX has an array of hotels on offer, from sustainable design led hotels with vegetarian restaurants, to family-oriented properties and wellness havens. The destination is a leader in Swiss sustainable innovation, something which can be seen throughout the region’s leading Greenstyle Programme, which sees the resort aim to become a producer of energy rather than a consumer by 2030.

Here's a rundown of the top four hotels run by LAAX and the travellers they cater to.

A hotel for the adventurous – Flem Mountain Lodge

The dual purposed mountain hub, located in the village of Flims, is used as the perfect starting point for mountain biking in the summer, and a cosy ski lodge in the winter. The Flem Mountain Lodge offers accommodation that’s ideal for those looking for a more rural escape with friends.

The lodge is surrounded by bike and hiking routes in the summer, and offers bike route maps, a bike room and workshop, and even spare parts to those who stay. In the winter, however, the hotel transforms into a cosy lodge, where no less action is offered. With easy access to 224 kilometers of slopes, and five snow parks, the Flem Mountain Lodge acts as the perfect place of refuge when guests aren’t on the slopes, and with the slogan ‘Play at the Lodge’, this accommodation offers just that.

The snowboarder’s paradise – Riders Hotel

The snowboarder’s paradise, Riders Hotel, is known across the Alps as the go-to place for likeminded creatives to come together. Boarders with an eye for style and who appreciate a healthy amount of rule breaking will feel at home here. The hotel has hosted tattoo pop ups in the past, and even has a gaming room, which includes Playstation consoles provided by footwear brand Vans and is a great place to unwind at the end of the day.

Riders Hotel also offers the plant-based Riders Restaurant, where chefs use regional produce to create new three and five-course menus each week to match the season. While this will be sure to encourage the foodies, the hotel also acts as a meeting place for culture lovers; with concerts, locally sourced art exhibitions, and parties hosted regularly throughout the seasons.

While the hotel is brimming with activities, guests can also rest easy knowing that Riders is leading the charge in sustainability across LAAX.  Riders’ green roof is the first to trial cutting-edge vertical solar panels that produce 25,000 kWh in solar energy each year, and even produce energy when snow lies on the roof. The hotel is covered by 100% renewable energy, 10% of which is obtained by its solar panels, whereas the other 90% is from renewable energy from Switzerland. Riders also only uses sustainable products, whether it be ecological detergents, its locally sourced vegetarian cuisine, or even the wine on offer.

Best for young families - rocksresort

One of the largest hotels in LAAX, the rocksresort, is regularly named one of Switzerland’s best hotels for families. The ski-in ski-out hotel, located right next to the Laax gondola station offers easy access to the slopes while providing something to the whole family can enjoy. The resort hosts a range of activities that will keep the children happy, from a walk with its pet goats, to a children’s cocktail course, the weekly programs will ensure there’s always fun to be had, even off the slopes.

In addition to the ease of its location, the resort, which was built entirely of regionally sourced materials, also offers an outdoor skate park in the summer season. From the urban surfwave, the snakerun, and the mini ramp, the outdoor park is ideal for those wanting to surf the asphalt.

The resort offers 206 modern apartments with access to six bars, eight restaurants, and nine stores in the immediate vicinity.

A trip for your wellbeing

Located next to rocksresort, and close to the Laax gondola station, the signinahotel is best for a more relaxed getaway. The hotel, which is built in a traditional Swiss design, offers a spacious wellness center and packages throughout the year so guests can save on the spa offering or even golfing at the Buna Vista Golf Sagogn.

With a full spa on offer, guests can enjoy its classic Signina home massage, hot stone bodywork, and even a chocolate massage. Once guests have enjoyed one (or more) of the spa’s offering, they can take advantage of its other wellness facilities, such as the 12.5 metre long adventure pool or sauna.

There’s really no better way to warm up after a day on the slopes than receiving a massage with handmade oils made from local herbs or warming up in the multiple saunas or steam bath.
