Hinterstoder & Wurzeralm Join SuperSkiCard
With the current winter season, Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm, the most famous Upper Austrian ski areas, will become new members of the SuperSkiCard (SSC) Salzburg & Kitzbüheler Alpen. With this premium card, all winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy unlimited skiing fun in 22 ski regions on 2,815 kilometers of slopes.
The SuperSkiCard is the ticket to a wide range of skiing fun in SalzburgerLand and neighboring ski areas as far away as Bavaria from mid-October to the beginning of May. It can be purchased as a SuperSkiCard Premium, optional subscription or ski pass. Founded more than 20 years ago, it now offers skiing fun on 2,815 kilometers of slopes in 87 ski resorts in 22 ski regions with fantastic slopes, numerous themed slopes and freeride routes or world-class slopes in seven World Cup resorts. Almost 800 huts and mountain restaurants invite you to stop off and perfectly combine sport and enjoyment. The glacier ski areas ensure an early start to winter and long sunny skiing until late spring. All information about the SuperSkiCard can be found at www.superskicard.com
For more than 20 years, the SuperSkiCard has stood for maximum variety and local flexibility. All skiers can ski in 22 varied ski areas throughout the winter season - through the glacier areas from October to May. There are fantastic runs, numerous themed slopes, seven World Cup ski areas, countless freeride routes and around 800 cozy huts. The SSC is the ticket to almost unlimited winter sports fun.
The SuperSkiCard is the perfect addition to local or regional offers at an attractive price for all winter sports fans, regardless of whether they are heavy users or recreational skiers. With an average of around 25 days of use, a day of skiing costs less than 40 euros, which means a saving of up to 35.50 euros per day compared to day tickets, according to KR Ferdinand Eder, coordinator of the SuperSkiCard.
“We are very pleased that our two ski areas, Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm, are now members of the SuperSkiCard. Being a member of this “extended family” means, on the one hand, being part of an enormous and varied overall offering, and on the other hand, we have the opportunity to introduce ourselves to many new guests,” says Helmut Holzinger, board member of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG. The two ski areas expand the SSC's current offering by over 60 kilometers of slopes in Upper Austria, with numerous attractive slopes in the only Upper Austrian World Cup resort Hinterstoder and the versatile family ski area Wurzeralm.
The Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm ski region is located in the middle of the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region with the breathtaking backdrop of the Dead Mountains or Warscheneck and is easily accessible via the Pyhrn motorway or by public transport.
Hinterstoder has the only World Cup ski area in Upper Austria. It reaches up to 2,000 meters above sea level and therefore offers winter sports enthusiasts a particularly high level of snow security on 40 kilometers of slopes. Sporty skiers will find a wide range of options here. From the Hannes Trinkl World Cup route via the Inferno slope with a gradient of 70% to the Höss Totale, in which 1,400 meters of altitude are overcome over 7.4 km. Families with smaller children will find fun on many “blue” slopes or in the new children’s area, which is the largest in Upper Austria at 16,500m2.
The new Hössbahn was opened in Hinterstoder last season. It is a cabin gondola that can transport 3,200 guests per hour with 10-passenger cabins. In practice, the new delivery rate corresponds to a 50% increase in capacity and thus significantly reduces waiting times for guests. The new location of the valley station, directly after entering the town near the large car park, means a much shorter and more comfortable route for all visitors. With a route length of 2,606 meters, an altitude difference of 811 meters is overcome in a time of 6.5 minutes.
In Hinterstoder, the ALPRIMA Aparthotel offers attractive rooms for families and sports enthusiasts. It is the only accommodation of its kind in Upper Austria and offers its guests around 330 beds. Ideal for anyone looking for inexpensive accommodation on their vacation! The comfortable facilities with your own kitchen and the concierge service offer guests everything they need for a self-catering holiday!
The Wurzeralm offers relaxed skiing fun on 22 kilometers of slopes with a wonderful mountain panorama. Since summer 2020, new, modern carriages on the funicular have been taking guests to the Wurzeralm mountain station in the shortest possible time. The Sunny Kids Park, wonderful slopes and rustic huts await you there.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in winter sports
Erich Egger, chairman of SuperSkiCard, emphasizes: “The cable car industry has been aware for many years that sustainability measures are necessary for resource-saving and energy-efficient operation. Around 20% of energy has already been saved in the last ten years. We also rely on our own production of electricity, e.g. B. construction of PV systems or small power plants, intelligent slope management or the use of HVO fuels for the maximum reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (up to 90% reduction).”
As the leading tourist company in the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region, Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG also serves as a role model when it comes to sustainability. For decades there has been very close cooperation with nature and environmental protection in the further development of business activities. From public travel options to the ecological footprint, from the natural approach to construction projects to the use of green electricity. Recently, around 2,000 new trees were reforested to replace the cleared forest area during the construction of the Hössbahn last year. The company is expected to be energy self-sufficient by 2028, which is why we are continually investing in photovoltaics and analyzing other energy sources.
