Galsterbergalm Cable Cars Now Rely On Solar Power

The ultra-modern 10-seater gondola lift on Galsterberg has been very popular since December 2022 - a highly efficient photovoltaic system on the roof of the valley station was recently put into operation. The Galsterbergalm cable cars are setting a sunny example for climate protection.

Sustainable energy production on 260 square meters

The photovoltaic system with an output of over 54 kWp covers an area of 260 square meters and includes a total of 143 high-performance photovoltaic elements. It was designed as a self-consumption system with surplus feed-in and is expected to achieve an annual production of 53,000 kWh. The CO2 savings are around 30,000 kilograms/year. Under optimal weather conditions, the system can cover the entire electricity needs of the valley station, including the office and checkout areas as well as the workshop.

Mag. Peter Weichbold, Managing Director of Galsterbergalm Bahnen, emphasizes: "For us as a mountain railway, the idea of sustainability plays a central role in all of our projects. In today's world, the responsible use of environmentally friendly technologies is the order of the day. Do this with the new photovoltaic system “We are taking an important step towards a sustainable future.”
