Winter Holidays In Tyrol: New Public Travel Options Highlighted

Travel comfortably without stress and traffic jams: In order to protect its living and recreational space, Tyrol has been promoting travel by train for many years and offers guests attractive day and night connections, especially from Austria and the neighboring countries of Germany, Switzerland and Italy the Netherlands and Scandinavia.

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Deutsche Bahn (DB) are constantly expanding their offerings. The direct connection RJX1062 from Vienna to the Kitzbühel Alps will run all year round from the timetable change on December 10, 2023 - and will be increased during the winter season. Lienz in East Tyrol will be more closely connected by new express train connections from Vienna on Fridays to Sundays. The Westbahn now runs from Vienna to Tyrol and back five times a day. From Germany, in addition to the weekend connection “Ski Express Tirol” from Hamburg to St. Anton am Arlberg, the DB is consolidating and modernizing the express train connection with the ICE1218/ICE1211 from northern Germany to Tyrol. The new ICE4 now runs daily from/to Hamburg or Berlin, depending on the construction site situation, via Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich to Innsbruck.

Tyrol can be reached comfortably and in an environmentally friendly way by train. There are very good public connections directly to the heart of the Alps from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy and Scandinavia. Which new and existing top train connections will lead from Europe to Tyrol in winter 2023/24 is listed below in a compact form:

FROM GERMANY TO TYROL

New connections with Deutsche Bahn:

• ICE from Dortmund via Cologne, Bonn, Mannheim, Stuttgart and Ulm to Tyrol with the stops St. Anton am Arlberg, Landeck-Zams, Imst-Pitztal, Ötztal, Telfs-Pfaffenhofen and the terminus Innsbruck - once a day after the timetable changes
• ICE4 from Hamburg and Berlin via Hanover, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Ulm and Munich to Tyrol with stops in Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach and the final station Innsbruck - once a day with twelve cars Numerous fast transfer connections from all over
• Germany via the ICE hub Munich with Deutsche Bahn continue to exist as follows:
• 7x daily from Munich with DB/ÖBB EuroCity to Italy via Tyrol with the stops Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach and Innsbruck
• 1x daily Railjet direct connection from Frankfurt (departure at 5:54 a.m.) via Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Ulm and Langen am Arlberg to Tyrol with stops in Landeck-Zams, Imst-Pitztal, Innsbruck, Jenbach and Wörgl
• 1x daily and all year round ÖBB Nightjet from Hamburg via Hanover, Nuremberg, Munich and Rosenheim to Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach and Innsbruck
• 1x daily ICE “Karwendel” from Hamburg to Seefeld in Tyrol and Innsbruck via Hanover, Augsburg and Munich – all year round on Fridays and back on Sundays (from March 1st to December 14th, 2024)
• Info: Due to construction work in Germany, ICE traffic from Germany to Seefeld and Innsbruck will not be possible until the end of February 2024. We therefore recommend traveling to Seefeld via Kufstein and Innsbruck.

The additional tourist, “seasonal” traffic in winter 2023/24 from Germany to Tyrol with Deutsche Bahn:

• ICE “Wetterstein” from Hamburg via Hanover and Munich to Seefeld in Tyrol and Innsbruck, all year round on Saturdays from March 2nd to December 14th, 2024Info: Due to construction work in Germany, there will be no ICE traffic from Germany to Seefeld and Innsbruck until the end of February 2024 possible. We therefore recommend traveling to Seefeld via Kufstein and Innsbruck.
• On weekends to the Kitzbühel Alps with the ICE “Großglockner”: from Hamburg to Tyrol from March 1st to April 7th, 2024 (Fridays to Tyrol and back on Sundays) or Saturdays from Munich from December 16th, 2023 to April 6th, 2024 and on the 24th/25th. and December 31, 2023 as well as on March 29 and 31, 2024Info: Due to construction work in Germany, the ICE “Großglockner” runs on Sundays from December 17, 2023 to February 25, 2024 back from Zell am See only to Munich main station.
• ICE “Ski Express Tirol” from Hamburg to St. Anton am Arlberg via Hanover, Augsburg and Munich as well as Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach, Innsbruck, Ötztal, Imst-Pitztal and Landeck-Zams on Saturdays from December 23rd, 2023 to March 30th, 2024 Info: The ICE “Ski Express Tirol” will run via Nuremberg and Berlin to Hamburg until the end of February 2024.
  RJ “Tirol” from Munich to Arlberg via Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach and Innsbruck on Saturdays: Starts from December 23rd, 2023 to April 6th, 2024.

FROM AUSTRIA TO TYROL

Additional connections with the WESTbahn: The WESTbahn has been running on the Vienna – Innsbruck route since December 2022. The daily frequency has now been increased to five direct connections with stops in Linz, Salzburg, Kufstein, Wörgl and Innsbruck, among others.

With the ÖBB directly to Tyrol:

• 16 times a day every hour from Vienna to Tyrol with the Railjet Xpress (including Euro Night from Budapest) - with stops in Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach, Innsbruck, Ötztal, Landeck-Zams and Langen am Arlberg (Vorarlberg)
• Twice daily from Graz with Eurocity or Intercity to Tyrol via St. Johann in Tirol, Kitzbühel, Kirchberg in Tirol, Wörgl, Jenbach, Innsbruck and on to Ötztal, Landeck-Zams and St. Anton am Arlberg
• 3x weekend connection from Vienna with the Railjet/D-Train through the Kitzbühel Alps to Wörgl - all year round on Fridays and Saturdays and back on Saturdays and Sundays (from December 16th, 2023 to April 7th, 2024 additionally on Sundays and second connection back). Saturdays) Info: There are the following additional connections with the D-Bahn: there on December 23rd and 30th, 2023 as well as on February 3rd and March 23rd, 2024 and back on December 26th, 2023 as well as on January 1st, February 4th and March 24, 2024
• Twice daily from Vienna with the Railjet and Intercity to Lienz
• NEW: 4x additional weekend connections from Vienna with the Railjet, Intercity and D-train to Lienz (new RJ connection on Saturday/Sunday afternoons, new D-train connection on Fridays, new IC connection on Sunday evenings back, additional RJ connection on return on Sundays and public holidays)
• Once a day with the ÖBB Nightjet from Graz towards Zurich via Innsbruck, Landeck-Zams and St. Anton am Arlberg

FROM THE NETHERLANDS TO TYROL

• The ÖBB Nightjet runs daily from Amsterdam Centraal via Utrecht to Tyrol. Stops in Tyrol are Innsbruck, Jenbach, Wörgl and Kufstein. Info: If you want to travel from Belgium, you can take an ICE or Thalys to Cologne every day and change there to the ÖBB Nightjet.

With the TUI Ski Express overnight from Amsterdam via Utrecht to Innsbruck with numerous stops at Tyrol's regional train stations - there on Fridays and back on Saturdays (from December 23rd, 2023 to March 12th, 2024). A complete package including night train, accommodation and 6-day ski pass is also available. The train is divided in Wörgl and runs to Innsbruck and a set via Brixental, Kitzbühel and St. Johann in Tirol to Zell am See.

FROM SWITZERLAND TO TYROL

• The ÖBB/SBB runs a total of seven times a day from Zurich to Tyrol:
• 1x daily from Zurich to Tyrol with Eurocity “Transalpin” with panoramic car (1st class) all year round
• 6x daily from Zurich with the Railjet Express towards Salzburg, Viena and Budapest through Tyrol with stops in Innsbruck and the regional train stations St. Anton am Arlberg, Landeck-Zams, Ötztal, Wörgl and Kufstein

FROM ITALY TO TYROL

• The DB/ÖBB runs up to ten times a day from Italy to Tyrol with stops in Innsbruck, Jenbach, Wörgl and Kufstein.
• 5x daily directly from Verona to Tyrol with Eurocity/Railjet
• Twice daily and all year round directly from Bologna to Tyrol with Eurocity/Railjet
• Twice daily and all year round directly from Venice to Tyrol with Eurocity/Railjet
• 1x daily and all year round directly from Rimini to Tyrol with Eurocity/Railjet
• NEW: additional regional REX service from Bolzano to Tyrol twice a day all year round

FROM SCANDINAVIA TO TYROL

The Swedish winter ski express and night train Snalltaghet runs again to Tyrol in winter. From Malmö via Copenhagen and Hamburg it goes via Salzburg and Zell am See to St. Johann in Tirol, Kitzbühel, Wörgl and Jenbach to Innsbruck with very good connecting bus connections to the Zillertal, to Sölden, Ischgl and St. Anton am Arlberg - on Fridays from December 22nd, 2023 to March 30th, 2024 and back on Saturdays.

FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC TO TYROL

The EuroNight runs once a day from Prague towards Zurich via Innsbruck and Landeck-Zams.

Fly to Tyrol via Innsbruck Airport

Innsbruck Airport is ideally connected to the world flight network with numerous scheduled flight destinations in Austria (Vienna), Germany (Frankfurt, Hamburg), Great Britain (London [LHR, LGW, LTN, STN], Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh), the Netherlands ( Amsterdam, Rotterdam-The Hague, Eindhoven), Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp) and Scandinavia. The central location and immediate proximity to the city center also enable short transfer times to popular Tyrolean destinations. The most important flight news to and from Innsbruck at a glance:

NEW: Berlin and Hamburg with Eurowings

From the coming winter season, Eurowings will connect both Berlin and Hamburg directly to Innsbruck Airport. Between December 23, 2023 and March 9, 2024, it will be even easier to travel from the German capital to and from Innsbruck on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Four weekly rotations are planned to and from Hamburg: Flights from Hamburg to Innsbruck will be offered on Saturdays from December 2nd, 2023, and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from December 20th, 2023. NEW: London Gatwick with British Airways

From December 8, 2023, British Airways will now also connect London Gatwick Airport with Innsbruck. The direct connection operates every day except Tuesdays. Bookings and information at www.ba.com.

Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) with Air France

After the successful start in the previous winter, Air France will also offer a weekly flight from Paris to Innsbruck and back next winter. Every Saturday between December 23, 2023 and March 30, 2024 there is a connection from CDG at 9:30 a.m. You can get from Innsbruck to Paris on Saturdays in just under two hours with a flight departing at 12:10 p.m. Information and bookings at www.airfrance.at.
