The Home of Lässig continues to invest in renewable energy and CO₂ reduction

Overall, Austria's mountain railways are the second largest electromobility provider in the country. In most regions, the energy required for this comes 100% from renewable energy sources. In order to be able to use this sustainable form of energy in the future, the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is increasingly relying on the in-house production of electricity from hydro, solar and wind power.

This year, in addition to the existing solar systems, the largest photovoltaic system in the ski area - on the facade of the new Limberg 8-seater valley station - will be put into operation. In addition, new types of wind turbines are planned to be installed at the mountain station, so that in the future a large part of the energy required to operate the new railway can be generated in-house.

In Hinterglemm, the Wiesermühle hydroelectric power plant, which is also being built by the mountain railways, is nearing completion. With a forecast annual energy volume of 1,800,000 kilowatt hours (1.8 GWh) - which corresponds to the average annual energy requirement of over 400 households - this system is a real game changer and will make a significant contribution to the in-house production of renewable energy for the operation of the cable car systems in the future.

But the focus of our efforts is also on operating the snow groomers, work machines and team buses in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The Skicircus is now increasingly using “bio fuel” (HVO100 renewable fuel), which is made from 100 percent renewable raw materials. This fuel is not only intended to gradually replace fossil fuels in the ski area, but also
at the same time reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90%. Leogang in particular is the first mountain railway in Austria to rely entirely on this “plant power” and is thus taking on a pioneering role in the industry.

The mountain railway companies in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn have been investing in ecological, economic and social sustainability for years and will continue to do so in the future. Topics such as energy efficiency, environmental protection, renewable energy and regional economic activity are consistently promoted.

Audi FIS Ski World Cup Final 2024 March 16 to 24, 2024

The World Cup final will be the perfect World Cup dress rehearsal!

The final of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup will take place on the Zwölferkogel in Saalbach Hinterglemm from March 16 to 24, 2024. The eagerly awaited end of the season is also the dress rehearsal for the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships Saalbach 2025.

Before the World Cup takes place in Saalbach in February 2025, the Skicircus is looking forward to welcoming the best ski racers in the world to the World Cup finals of the 2023/24 season in Salzburger Land. Then the final sporting decisions will be made in the overall World Cup and in the individual discipline rankings for both women and men. Traditionally, only the 25 best athletes in the respective discipline ranking as well as all runners with over 500 points in the overall ranking are eligible to start at the season sweepstakes. In addition, the reigning junior world champions will also be able to present themselves on the big skiing stage at the finale.

This gives athletes the opportunity to get to know the World Cup slopes on the Zwölferkogel better and to ski them at racing speed for the first time. The World Cup final should also provide the World Cup organizing team with important information regarding infrastructure, mobility concepts and sports logistics, as World Cup medals will be awarded again almost eleven months later in Glemmtal.
