Jenesien Cable Car: Old Lift To Be Demolished - New Lift For 2024

Demolition work on the Jenesien cable car begins after a local inspection with those responsible from the state, municipality and the specialist company.

With a view to the new Jenesien cable car being built, demolition work will begin shortly: work will now begin on removing the cables from the old cable car, and then the actual buildings will be demolished. The project and the next steps were discussed during a local inspection in the presence of the Regional Mobility Council, the Mayor of Bolzano, the Mayor of Jenesien and the Vice Mayor of Bolzano.

First, the Ultimo company Alpintec removes the ropes from the old Jenesien cable car. The existing supports and the buildings at the mountain and valley stations will then be demolished. "We expect the cable car system to be dismantled within the year. The supports and buildings can then be removed," says Joachim Dejaco, general director of Sta - Südtiroler Transportstructures AG.

Construction of the new cable car is expected to begin in 2024. This largely follows the existing route, with the number of supports along the route being reduced to three. The valley and mountain stations are being rebuilt.

The new cable car system

The new system is an aerial tramway with two supporting cables. The new cable car floats towards the mountain or valley in 5.15 minutes - around seven meters per second - and overcomes an altitude of 759 meters. "In the future, a gondola will accommodate up to 45 passengers, resulting in a maximum transport capacity of 360 people per hour. The new Jenesien cable car will therefore meet the demands of a modern, urban means of transport that meets the needs of commuters and guests from near and far alike," says Dejaco.
