Doppelmayr Celebrating 3 Million Rides With The BUGA Gondola

The 2023 Federal Garden Show in Mannheim is pleased about 2.2 million visitors. Doppelmayr is happy with them and is celebrating 3 million rides with the BUGA cable car.

The BUGA 23 was Germany's largest garden festival. The Federal Garden Show was open for 178 days and welcomed visitors to the former Spinelli military site in Mannheim's northeast and in Luisenpark. The BUGA cable car connected the two exhibition areas Luisenpark and Spinelli grounds in a very special way and offered passengers unique views of the BUGA and the city of Mannheim.

What happens next with the cable car?

Due to growing mobility in cities and the simultaneous increasing ecological challenges, appropriate mobility solutions are required. The cable car is a safe, efficient, barrier-free and environmentally friendly means of transport that can very well meet the requirements of future mobility.

The BUGA cable car in Mannheim is an ideal example of an urban cable car and offers the manufacturer and operator Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH the unique opportunity to carry out a test operation in the interests of the continuous further development of their products. The findings from the investigations in Mannheim serve to further develop urban cable cars, which often have similar topologies to the BUGA cable car.

The investigations will analyze the behavior of horizontal cable cars with long cable fields. Various configurations and settings on the cable car will be examined and their influences on ride comfort will be determined.

There will be no public passenger service during this time; only Doppelmayr engineers and experts will use the facility. The period for test operation is limited to January 2024. The cable car will be dismantled immediately afterwards.
