B4BC Raises More Than $70,000 For Breast Cancer Programs

Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) sent a wave of pink down the coast this weekend for its 16th annual Skate the Coast presented by Suja Organic. Over 150 community members and advocates for the cause came together on October 22nd to skate-bike-roll 15 miles from Santa Monica Pier to Redondo Beach raising more than $70,000 for B4BC’s yearlong breast cancer prevention, education and survivorship programs. This event closed out the organization’s summer skate series and promoted B4BC’s mission of a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means of breast cancer prevention.

The weekend of movement and philanthropy began with a Registration Party on October 21st at Firestone Walker Taproom in Venice. Participants got a chance to connect and enjoy some delicious drinks, food and live music from Mason Dunn. Later in the evening the excitement for the weekend built to the raffle and silent auction that featured items from partners across its support network and concluded with music by Faradays. B4BC also shared its mission with the local community on the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and that early detection saves lives.  It was a great time of interconnection for not just this event but for the cause.

Riders gathered early on Sunday October 22nd, powered up and impassioned to ride for breast cancer thrivers and survivors and push the message of early detection. The 15-mile skate-bike-roll began at Santa Monica Pier with hydration stations sprinkled throughout for riders and a 7-mile drop in at Dockweiler State Beach. The sun was shining, and the Los Angeles coastline was full of smiles as participants cruised, got their hearts pumping and accented the Pacific Ocean with pink for prevention. Riders crossed the finish line at Dive N Surf, where they were met with a finish line party. Attendees enjoyed music by Feed the Kitty and Tha Milk Man with some tasty food from Traeger BBQ, TACOM and Sambazon, and refreshing drinks by Suja Organic, CAPACITY and Firestone Walker. Top fundraisers were also awarded with prizes from some of B4BC’s Skate the Coast partners.

“Skate the Coast is one of our biggest events and it’s rewarding to see it grow and how much participants enjoy it and support the core of it, which is breast cancer prevention,” said Lisa Hudson, B4BC co-founder and president. “The energy that is brought forth is unmatched and it means everything that we get to reinforce our mission of a healthy active lifestyle through these events. The impact is everlasting and each year we are grateful to make bigger moves for breast cancer awareness and prevention.”

Skate the Coast wraps up B4BC’s 2023 summer skate series, but the organization pushes for prevention the entire year. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and B4BC has done a multitude of activities during this special time, including hosting two Survivorship Ocean Wellness Retreats sponsored by Vuori Clothing in Encinitas, multiple product collaboration launches along with the  BHealthy, Get Active fitness and wellness campaign with a collection of donation-based classes throughout the month promoting a healthy active lifestyle. The organization is looking forward to its upcoming nationwide Love Your Peaks Winter Series and to keep advocating for breast cancer awareness, prevention and survivorship.
