TREW x Gone Boarding Collaborate On Student-Designed Product Collection
TREW Gear has partnered with Gone Boarding, a youth education program centered around product design and action sports, to create the TREW x Gone Boarding Collection. The student-designed product capsule includes a hoodie and t-shirt, launching May 9th online only at TREW. All proceeds from product sales will be shared between the student artists and the Gone Boarding Scholarship Fund.
Gone Boarding is a project-based school curriculum that encourages learning through the lens of action sports. During school hours, Gone Boarding engages students to design, construct, market, and learn to ride all types of boards, including surfboards, snowboards, skateboards, stand-up paddleboards, and wakeboards. The program, started by educator Bill Curtis in Michigan, is now in twenty-four high schools with goals of expansion, including the Pacific Northwest.
“As a snowboard-obsessed teen in Michigan, I can only imagine how a program like Gone Boarding would have impacted me during my formative school years. Mr. Curtis was my high school PE teacher, so this partnership is an incredible circular moment for me. The collaboration 100% aligns with TREW’s values, but on a personal level, reconnecting with a former teacher to provide new opportunities to Michigan students, is a career highlight,” says Graham Wallace, Marketing Director for TREW Gear.
In December 2022, TREW challenged Gone Boarding students to create a graphic that made people everywhere stoked about winter and the outdoors. The winning design, named the TREW Yetis by creators Ella Gorski and Maddy Skym, was one of over thirty designs submitted by the Gone Boarding program participants at Forest Hills Northern in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“When I was designing the logo, I wanted to incorporate everything we believed embraced the TREW mentality. At first, when the idea of snow monsters was brought up, I knew that I wanted to do that. Yetis were the first thing that came to mind and following that characterizing them individually came later. And finally adding on the signature TREW things such as the thumbs up, bibs and both winter sports,” said Maddy Skym, creator of the winning design.
The collection will be available for a two-week window only, from May 9th-May 23rd at TREW. Orders will ship mid to late June. For each hoodie and t-shirt purchased, the recipient will receive one entry into a raffle for a chance to win a custom Gone Boarding x Trew longboard featuring the winning student artwork.
As a follow-up to the initial TREW x Gone Boarding Collection, TREW is working with students on a gear upcycling project through TREW’s “Afterlife” program; taking old gear and giving it a new life. The top designs will be showcased across TREW’s social channels, including Instagram and TikTok, where viewers will be able to vote for their favorites for a chance to win TREW prize packs.
