Skidata Smartphone Ticket Introduced Across The Board At KitzSki.
Since March 16, 2023, the smartphone ticket has been used across the board at KitzSki. KitzSki is therefore the first ski area to offer this type of ticket in the entire ski area. It is a new, convenient way to get to the ski slopes even faster and a 100% alternative to the conventional key card.
Kitzbuehel. With the digital smartphone ticket from SKIDATA, KitzSki takes ticket purchases to a whole new level. Thanks to the intensive test phase and the numerous advantages, the smartphone ticket is the fastest option for getting the ski ticket. Mag. Anton Bodner and Mag. Christian Wörister, board duo of the Bergbahn Kitzbühel, know that investing in digitization has above all a sustainable benefit. "It is important to us that we can simplify and improve the quality of the ski day for our guests by one step with the smartphone ticket. We are pleased that, together with SKIDATA, we have the opportunity at Interalpin 2023 to present these digital innovations to the entire ropeway industry and to report on our experiences. In this way, KitzSki remains the innovation leader in the industry,” affirms the board. The process to get the smartphone ticket is simple: The KitzSki app is installed free of charge, the ski ticket is purchased directly in the KitzSki app or at shop.kitzski.at and activated in the KitzSki app on the day of skiing. When the ski guest approaches the turnstile, the smartphone registers via Bluetooth and the access reader opens automatically. The best thing is: the smartphone can stay in the jacket pocket and does not have to be taken out.
Long battery life with intelligent ticket identification
Franz Holzer, Managing Director of SKIDATA Austria, explains that the developers of the digital ski ticket were faced with many demanding tasks. “It was particularly important to keep battery consumption as low as possible. This was achieved with Bluetooth Low Energy technology. And: Bluetooth has a large radio range, which is why additional development by SKIDATA was necessary for the smartphone ticket to work correctly. This new technology is able to identify the right ski ticket, even if there are several people with a smartphone ticket near a turnstile," says Franz Holzer.
The digital future of ski tickets
The smartphone ticket replaces the more complex booking process with the keycard and entering the keycard number or picking it up at the machine 100 percent. KitzSki was the first ski area in Austria to introduce the digital ticket for skiers. "The pilot operation for the digital ticket has been running at KitzSki for three years. The new technology is now being used in seven ski areas around the world. We have already registered 250,000 accesses via smartphone,” adds Franz Holzer.
The smartphone as a multifunctional talent
The smartphone ticket offers even more services for ski guests. In addition to purchasing tickets, the following information can be called up in the KitzSki app: waiting times for the lifts, lift status, slope status, snow reports and much more. The aim is to make the stay in the ski area even more pleasant for skiers.
