Hinterstoder Reforesting Area
The new Hössbahn was built last winter. The clearing required for the new cable car route has now been reforested with 2,000 trees elsewhere in the Hinterstoder region.
Mountain railways as a sustainable leading company
As a leading tourism company in the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region, Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG also set an example in terms of sustainability. For decades there has been a very close cooperation with nature and environmental protection in the further development of business activities. From public transport options to the ecological footprint, from the natural approach to construction projects to the use of green electricity. The most recent reforestation took place as a replacement for the cleared forest area in the course of the rebuilding of the Hössbahn last year.
2,000 pieces of new larches, sycamore & Co
On a total of 30,000 m2, 2,000 pieces of larch, sycamore, beech, fir and spruce were planted by employees of the Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm mountain railways on adjacent properties in the Hinterstoder municipality. “Our potential is nature and our guests are nature lovers. That is why it is particularly important for our company to further develop our business activities in harmony with nature," says Rainer Rohregger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG. Every year around 750,000 nature and sports enthusiasts spend their free time on the mountains of Hinterstoder and the Wurzeralm.
Great added value in a small area
The mountain railways operate their facilities in the two ski and hiking areas on a total area of 222 ha, which corresponds to 0.018% of the total area of Upper Austria (11,982 km2) and 0.18% of the district of Kirchdorf an der Krems (1,240km2). "As the use of our offer by the guests proves, we achieve a very high added value for tourism in a small area in relation to the total area of the federal state," says Rainer Rohregger.
