Green Event Tirol: Golf Tournament Focuses On Sustainability And Environmental Protection

The Austrian Juniors Golf Tour (AJGT) tournament and the Tyrolean school and youth championships in the GC Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf set an example for environmentally friendly sport. Thanks to the cooperation with the Tyrolean Climate Alliance, the event received the "Green Event Tyrol basic" award for the first time. With this pilot project, the organizers support the efforts of the Austrian Golf Association (ÖGV) for more sustainability in golf.

In close cooperation with the Austrian and Tyrolean Golf Associations, numerous measures were taken at the GC Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf to make the tournament more sustainable. Particular attention is paid to environmentally friendly travel , accessibility , waste avoidance , reusable tableware , regional catering , social sustainability and a holistic approach to the sustainable operation of the golf course.

However, the impact of the Green Event goes far beyond measurable effects such as waste reduction. It is important to the organizers to raise awareness of a sustainable lifestyle and to make it clear that golf and sustainability are not contradictory. On the contrary: golf courses can create significant added value for the regional landscape and environment. The young participants and guests get to know alternative possibilities during the event and at the same time become active advocates of sustainable commitment.
