Doppelmayr: St. Moritz - New Lift Combines Modern With Traditional
After 40 years, a new era is dawning on the Suvretta mountainside: Garaventa has rebuilt the Suvretta-Randolins double chairlift while retaining the nostalgic character of this iconic ropeway.
Steeped in tradition, the Suvretta-Randolins chairlift has been bringing passengers from St. Moritz to the Corviglia skiing, biking and hiking area since 1982. After 40 years of service, the time had come to replace the lift. The invitation to bid specified that the installation should be modernized but its nostalgic character nonetheless retained along with a similar alignment. The operating company Engadin St. Moritz Mountains AG decided in favor of a new chairlift from Garaventa. The design featuring a custom combination of colors fully addresses the customer’s wish for a modern yet traditional ropeway installation. The hangers are finished in black and the chair upholstery shines in British Racing Green. The look is rounded off with golden logos, reflecting the design of the luxury hotel Suvretta House.
It carries 865 passengers an hour over a length of 820m and a vertical rise of 276m. First impressions since the start of service show this installation to be an eye-catcher and guests enjoy riding on the new lift that echoes the traditional design of its predecessor.
