Sierra Nevada Builds Snowboard Cross Circuit For March's World Cup

This week, Sierra Nevada's ski resort have started the construction of the snowboard cross course where two events of the FIS World Cup of this discipline will be held on 11 and 12 March. The track coincides, except for minor modifications to the start and the curve before the finish line, with the one that hosted the 2020 World Cup in which the Spanish rider Lucas Eguibar won.

The two races of the FIS Snowboard Cross (SBX) World Cup will take place in the Loma de Dílar area, in the 'heart' of the Sulayr snowpark, and as was the case in 2020, the competition will be compatible with the ski in the area.

Six banked turns, three jumps and seven dubbies make up a circuit for the construction of which there is already enough snow available, even more than in the spectacular layout of 2020. This was communicated this week by the Sierra Nevada 2023 organising committee to the International Ski Federation (FIS) to confirm the celebration of the event.

The final part of the course with the finish area will be very close to the lower station of the Monachil chairlift, where the grandstands and the entertainment area will be located.

The two events of the Sierra Nevada World Cup, which is sponsored by the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport with co-financing from the European Union, will be attended by some 120 riders (70 men and 40 women), the best in the world in one of the most spectacular snowboarding disciplines.

The competition, organised by Cetursa Sierra Nevada and the Andalusian and Spanish winter sports federations, will be held just after the World Snowboard Championships in Bakuriani (Georgia) and before the World Cup final in Veysonnaz (Switzerland).

22 international television channels from Europe, Asia and America have confirmed the live broadcasting of the two races of the Sierra Nevada 2023 Snowboard Cross (SBX) World Cup to be held in the Granada winter resort on 11 and 12 March.

The television signal will be produced by MediaPro, which will distribute 13 cameras along the course of the snowboard cross track, located in the Loma de Dílar and consisting of six banked turns, three jumps and seven dubbies until the finish line near the lower station of the Monachil chairlift.

Since the 2015 Winter Universiade, with the introduction of fibre optics on the main competition slopes of the Sierra Nevada, the production of the TV signal has simplified and economised the technical process by eliminating the distribution of cables over the snow to the production centre (ENG mobile unit), now located in the Pradollano underground car park, where the images from the TV cameras arrive.

According to Infront - the production company that distributes the international TV signal of the FIS World Cup -, the channels that have requested signals from the two World Cups in Sierra Nevada are:

o Eurosport (Europe and Asia)
o ORF Sport+ (Austria),
o CBC (Canada),
o CCTV16 (China),
o CT Sport+ (Czech Republic),

Teledeporte (TVE) will broadcast the two World Cup events on Spanish national territory.

On the other hand, in addition to the live broadcasts - the number of which can be increased up to a week before the competition - a total of 46 television stations from all over the world have already requested the summaries of the two races in Sierra Nevada.

The two Sierra Nevada World Cup events will feature some 120 riders (70 men and 40 women), the best in the world in one of the most spectacular snowboarding disciplines.

The competition, sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía with co-financing from the European Union, will be held just after the World Snowboard Championships in Bakuriani (Georgia) and before the last two races (in Veysonnaz, Switzerland; and Mr. St. Ann, Canada) that will close the annual SBX World Cup circuit.
