Bogus Basin To Host Nordic Junior National Qualifier Races

Bogus Basin announced today that qualifying races for the Nordic Junior National Championships will take place at the area on February 4 and 5. Over 200 aspiring Nordic competitors from the Intermountain Division, including Idaho, Montana, Utah and Western Wyoming, will participate.

The Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) event includes both classic and skate skiing competitions on courses ranging in distance from 2km to 10km. The athletes are from 15 to 20 years of age. All events will take place on Bogus Basin’s Nordic trail system, located near the Frontier Point Lodge, beginning at 10:00 am.

The top competitors from the Junior National Qualifying series will compete in the U.S. Junior National Championships at the end of the season. The championships brings together the best young cross country skiers in the nation. They are held in a different part of the country each year. The 2023 Junior Nationals will be in Fairbanks, Alaska, March 13-16.

Last year, twelve Idahoans participated in the U.S. Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships in Minnesota. Two recent members of Boise’s Bogus Basin Nordic Team competed at that event; Timberline High School graduate Aurora Cramer and 15 year old Molly Maybach.

Bogus Basin Nordic trail access will remain open on select trails throughout the weekend. The competitions will wrap up on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 pm. For more information, contact Bogus Basin’s Director of Nordic Operations, Paul McNeil, at paul@bogusbasin.org.
