Schilthorn: Winteregg Chair Capacity To Be Increased

In the summer of 2024, Schilthornbahn AG will expand the Winteregg chairlift with 17 additional canopy chairs. The delivery capacity is increased from 1200 to 1600 winter sports enthusiasts per hour. The company is thus responding to the significantly increased demand.

Since 2009, the detachable four-person Winteregg chairlift has carried around 1,200 people per hour from the Winteregg station of the Lauterbrunnen-Mürren mountain railway up to the Maulerhubel. The facility was approved and licensed for a capacity of 1,600 winter sports enthusiasts per hour. The remaining 33 percent will now be subsequently expanded in the summer of 2024. For this purpose, 17 additional armchairs with weather protection covers will be purchased.

Response to increase in demand

With this expansion, the Schilthornbahn is responding to the increased demand: for two years, an attractive offer has been offered on the slopes around the Winteregg chairlift with the snow-covered FIS training routes and the Skyline Snowpark, which has increased frequency by around 25 percent over the past 5 years have increased significantly. The facility is also a central entry portal into the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area. Around a third of snow sports enthusiasts reach the area via this route and, thanks to the facility, are ready for their first descent from Lauterbrunnen in just 20 minutes. From Interlaken Ost the journey only takes 45 minutes. Furthermore, with the renovation of the Lauterbrunnen-Mürren mountain railway and the associated increase in attractiveness, the importance and utilization of the Winteregg chairlift will continue to increase. The investment in expanding the funding capacity is less than half a million francs.
