Minister Kraus-Winkler Praises Top Summer For Austrian Tourism
“Austrian summer tourism has completely recovered from Corona and is back to its former strength. With 80.9 million overnight stays, we were able to exceed the good year of 2019 by another 2.4 percent. The numbers confirm how popular Austria is as a summer destination and how much our tourism offering is characterized by high service quality and a good price-performance ratio. Tourism is and remains an industry that stands for stability in challenging times in Austria,” said Tourism State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler.
Overnight stays by foreign guests increased by 6.5 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 57.04 million this summer. But Austria also remains the top tourism destination for domestic guests with 23.85 million overnight stays. “It is particularly pleasing that overnight stays from Asia, such as China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, are also increasing again - albeit from a low level,” says Kraus-Winkler.
For the industry itself, there were challenges due to the ongoing inflation and the severe weather events occurring in some destinations, such as Carinthia: “What is certain is that the holiday regions are required to adapt to weather-related changes so that tourists can continue to have a safe and secure stay in the future can experience a carefree holiday,” says Kraus-Winkler.
The fortunately ever-increasing need for employees shows, conversely, what an important role tourism plays as a service industry for the labor market in all regions of Austria.
