Gore Mountain Announces Grand Opening Of Bear Cub Quad

Gore Mountain is excited to unveil its latest addition, The Bear Cub Quad, scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, December 16, 2023. This momentous occasion will be marked by a special event commencing at 9 am in the Snow Sports School Learning Area near the Bear Cub Quad.

James Bayse, General Manager of Gore Mountain, shared his excitement about the Bear Cub Quad, stating, “The Bear Cub Quad will significantly enhance the learning experience at Gore. It offers numerous advantages, such as its considerable length compared to the previous surface lift, which extends to the lower part of Lower Sunway, and an expansive lower-angle learning area. This new lift allows instructors and students more time on the snow to hone their skills, contributing to developing lifelong skiers and riders.”

“We are thrilled to open the Bear Cub Quad, which will improve everyone’s access to Gore Mountain’s lower mountain terrain, while making for an even better learning experience,” said Ashley Walden, ORDA’s President & CEO. “This new lift signifies our commitment to Gore being an exceptional place for all levels of skiers and snowboarders to develop their skills.”

Named in homage to its predecessor, the Bear Cub Conveyor-Load Quad upgraded from the previous Bear Cub Poma Surface Lift. The new lift will span 1,912 feet and provide direct access to the Lower Sunway trail, one of the most accessible trails in the area. Additionally, the new lift will load guests more rapidly.

The introduction of The Bear Cub Quad marks a pivotal development for the Bear Cub Snow Sports Learning Area. As the primary beginner trail, Bear Cub Run boasts two conveyor surface lifts, serving as a significant first step for novices. The new conveyor-load quad is the second step for those learning to navigate ski lifts, assisting new skiers and riders to master the art of loading correctly.

Recent beginner and novice mountain improvements include an addition to the Northwoods Lodge for more space in the Rental Shop and Snow Sports School, numerous trail modifications, ands the Sunway conveyor-loaded quad upgrade.

Mark Lacek, a seasoned instructor, expressed his enthusiasm for the Bear Cub Quad, noting, “This is an exciting time to be part of Gore Mountain! The quad lift will significantly expedite getting newcomers onto the slopes. The Bear Cub Quad will facilitate quicker access to the mountain, offering guests extended practice time, benefiting everyone. Our snow sports staff eagerly anticipates providing lessons with this new lift and terrain.”

Gail Setlock, the Snow Sports Director with over 38 years at Gore, remarks, “Gore is one of the greatest places to learn how to ski and snowboard. We have a fantastic team of instructors who train hard, work on their teaching skills, and return year after year. Our lessons are fun with an emphasis on safe learning. This terrain is also excellent for our growing adaptive program. We offer first-class lessons to people of all abilities, adapting the ski equipment and instruction to the unique needs of each guest. Gore is equipped with sit skis (bi-skis and mono skis) and three-track/four-track skiing.”
