BUFF Strengthens Commitment To Sustainability
BUFF has made significant progress on their sustainability journey, which remains at the forefront of all the brands decisions. This year, the company is celebrating officially joining the B Corp Community, a global group of companies committed to using the power of business as a force for good. They are proud to be certified with 105.7, well above industry standards. This is a recognition of their commitment to sustainability, which has always been part of BUFF’s DNA.
The brand publishes its Sustainability Report that includes all the initiatives and actions carried out during the 2022/23 fiscal year. Major milestones include:
o 93% of their products made at their in-house facility in Barcelona
o 100% of energy used at Buff’s in-house manufacturing facility comes from renewable sources.
o 67% of their suppliers are sourced locally (in Spain), reducing carbon impact, fostering community engagement, and supporting regional economies.
o 80% of units sold during 2022/23 comprise natural or recycled materials.
o 41 million bottles have been recycled to make their products as sustainable as possible
The Brand’s ‘Do More Now’ Sustainability Strategy is more than an initiative; It is a mantra and a philosophy. It is BUFF’s way of manifesting their intention of doing more things now, not tomorrow. The brand focuses on three key areas within the Do More Now Initiative:
· Act More, A promise to responsible production.
· Protect More, A commitment to environment and sustainability.
· Care More, Creating a positive impact on society and social actions.
BUFF has rigorously calculated its carbon footprint for the third consecutive year. By following the GHG Protocol, BUFF categorises emissions into three scopes, addressing both direct and indirect sources. Notably, the company has already achieved global carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, including HQ and branches, well ahead of its 2030 target.
As a step toward carbon neutrality, BUFF has invested in high-quality offset credits from the Yacumama Forest Carbon Project in Peru. This initiative supports the preservation of critical habitats for diverse threatened species. BUFF recognises that offsetting is not a final solution but remains dedicated to continually reducing its carbon footprint while actively monitoring advancements in science-based knowledge.
As part of their Protect More initiative BUFF has also supported the following organisations:
· Blue Earth Summit, BUFF was in attendance building conversations on sustainability within the brand, and co-hosting a Purposeful Adventure Bike Out with Trash Free Trails, where they did a litter pick and educated attendees on single-use pollution.
· EOCA (European Outdoor Conservation Association), BUFF’s annual membership supports key ecosystem conservation projects and public awareness of the dire risks and consequences of climate change.
· Protect Our Winters, BUFF continued supporting POW with their goal to reduce the effects of climate change on the local mountain and winter sports communities.
2022/23, was a year of transformation at BUFF as they continued to build their renewed purpose, mission, and vision, guided by their values and the Do More Now sustainability programme. The company continued to work tirelessly to transform BUFF into a global company. They acquired the distribution of the brand in France and Italy, where they operate directly this year. Additionally, they successfully moved the production of several cap styles from Asia to their home factory in Barcelona. The task included expanding and reconfiguring their manufacturing facility to set up specific production lines and training more than 70 people on handcrafting their caps.
With a solid strategy, BUFF is looking forward to upleveling their sustainability efforts, and commitment to making a positive impact in years to come.
