Thomas Maierhofer Appointed As New CEO Of Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG
Norbert Karlsböck ended his mandate as sole director of Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG at his own request after the end of his term of office, in order to retire at the end of September. He managed the company for 17 years and played a leading role in developing it into a leading tourism company in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. On August 1st, Thomas Maierhofer takes over the management of the company as sole director.
Promising perspective
Maierhofer looks to the future with confidence: “I see it as a special privilege and a great responsibility to be able to work on and with the Kitzsteinhorn. Its snow-sure altitude and diverse natural landscape allow us to offer guests a varied range of sports and experiences all year round. As long as we move conscientiously and conserve resources in this extraordinary natural area, we will continue to succeed.” Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG operates the ski and adventure area Kitzsteinhorn – Maiskogel as well as the beginner’s ski area Lechnerberg in the center of Kaprun, with nine restaurants and numerous destinations open all year round.
Quality & Sustainability
Strategically, the AG relies on the qualitative further development of the existing offer. The aim is to preserve the unique natural area on the Kitzsteinhorn. Of course, we will continue to invest in sustainability: "The expansion of our own power generation and energy generation from renewable energy sources such as water, sun and geothermal energy has been our focus for years and will continue to be so in the future. From next winter we also want to fill up all of our diesel-powered snow groomers and machines exclusively with the fossil-free HVO100 fuel. Although it is more expensive, it is made from natural products such as used cooking oils and therefore releases 90 percent less CO2. Last winter we used it on our snow groomers on the Maiskogel and ended up saving 240 tons of CO2.”
The new board
Thomas Maierhofer studied business administration and business education and, before joining Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG, worked for the Raiffeisenverband Salzburg for eleven years as a commercial customer consultant with a focus on cable car management. For the past six years he has played a key role in the management of the AG as a commercial officer. At the beginning of 2023, the Supervisory Board unanimously elected Maierhofer as Karlsböck’s designated successor.
