Grindelwald-First: "First View" Viewing Platform Opened

The Grindelwald-First excursion area has one more attraction: On Friday, July 14, 2023, the Jungfrau Railways opened the new "First View" viewing platform. The platform offers a unique all-round view of the imposing mountains. It is accessible during Firstbahn operating hours and the visit is included in the train ticket.

The new metal-concrete construction in the shape of a wind turbine was built in just under one and a half months. "The summit experience of the First becomes even more attractive with the First View and, together with the First Cliff Walk, forms an ideal combination," said Jungfrau Railways Director Urs Kessler. Before the platform was also accessible to the general public from midday, the guests invited to the opening on Friday, July 14, 2023, were able to see for themselves that with each higher "rotor blade" a special section of the mountain world comes into view : From the highest peaks of the Bernese Oberland to the world-famous north face of the Eiger and the various mountains around Grindelwald.

A short walk leads from the First mountain station to the slightly higher vantage point. Various seating options invite you to linger and enjoy. The visit is included in the train ticket. Those who still want a little thrill afterwards will find it next door on the First Cliff Walk or on the two Flying Fox variants, First Flieger and First Glider.

The First View platform is located at the summit of the First mountain, about 2,200 meters above sea level. It offers 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

The platform is made up of nine different "rotor blades," each of which is offset in height and focuses on a particular section of the Alpine ring. Visitors can move from rotor blade to rotor blade to explore different views of the mountains.

The First View platform is open year-round and is accessible by cable car from Grindelwald village. It is a popular destination for hikers, skiers, and families.

"The First View platform is a truly unique experience," said Reto Gurtner, CEO of Jungfraubahnen. "It offers visitors stunning views of the Bernese Alps that they will never forget."

The First View platform is the latest addition to the Grindelwald-First ski and hiking area. The area also includes the First Cliff Walk, a suspension bridge that juts out over the edge of the mountain, and the First Flyer, a zip line that takes riders down the mountainside.

Grindelwald-First is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The area offers stunning scenery, a variety of activities, and year-round access.
