Arosa Continues Popularity With Guests

Despite the mixed winter, Arosa Tourism once again broke the 1 million mark for overnight stays. As has been the case for many years, the holiday destination has benefited from the strong team spirit among the top performers in the Schanfigg mountain village. A downer is the slight minus of CHF 16,000 in the annual tourism accounts. Nevertheless, Arosa Tourism is very satisfied with the 2022/23 season.

Roland Schuler, Director of Arosa Tourism, describes the past season: "The winter was challenging due to the snow conditions, but despite everything, the Arosa guests were always able to enjoy very good slope conditions. We were not quite able to reach the record values from last year, but we achieved the pre-Corona numbers for overnight stays.» The Director of Tourism emphasizes that, especially from mid-March, there was a sharp drop in the number of winter sports enthusiasts, which is due to the mild weather. At the same time, there was a noticeable lack of a major event at the end of the season compared to the previous year.

In 2022, Just Eat Takeaway brought thousands of guests to Arosa at the end of the ski season. Arosa Tourism is all the more pleased that they have been awarded the contract to host the “Swiss Snow Sport Happening”, the Swiss championships for snow sports instructors, in 2024. In April 2024, these will take around 2,500 people to Schanfigg. In general, Arosa was able to hold all events within its event strategy in the 2022/2023 season for the first time after Corona. The Arosa IceSnowFootball in January took place again after a two-year break. An important bike event was also organized in the summer with the Swiss Epic and Arosa as host partners.

One million mark broken again

Despite the important sporting events, Arosa was less crowded in the summer of 2022 than in the previous year. Over the entire season, overnight stays fell by -6.69%, while Arosa Tourism recorded a minus of CHF 16,000 with sales of CHF 11,320,367 in the annual accounts. Despite the decline, there were more overnight guests last year than in the pre-Covid period. The five-year average figures are correspondingly positive. A look at the statistics also reveals good news: Overnight stays once again exceeded one million. In the tourism year 2022/23, a total of 1,163,354 guests stayed in the holiday region – which also includes the Schanfigg valley in terms of tourism.

The 1 million mark was exceeded for the second time in a row. Arosa can thus close the financial year with the second highest number of overnight stays of all time. Arosa remains one of the most popular destinations for Swiss people and guests from abroad, even in times of economic turmoil. This is also reflected in the figures for the Arosa top performers. Arosa Bergbahnen AG was also able to close the past year with the second-best result in the company's history.

The Arosa mixture is no coincidence. The important strategic processes of the past few years are having an effect. Another focus is on sustainability. The overarching Arosa 2030 strategy promotes sustainability at all levels. The first project implementations have been successfully implemented, further projects are about to be published. Roland Schuler, Director of Tourism, is convinced: "Arosa offers an incredibly attractive environment. We are pleased to see that all top performers contribute to the overall development of Arosa with individual efforts and projects. In this way, the product will remain desirable for guests in the future."
