2023 Canadian Para-Alpine National Championships Wraps Up

Canada’s top para-alpine ski racers gathered in Kimberley, BC, with national titles up for grabs. These championships came the week after alpine nationals and the Kimberley Alpine Resort again delivered a tremendous event.

“It’s been a fabulous few days of racing,” said Matt Hallat Athletic Director, Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team. “The conditions were great and Kimberley always has an amazing volunteer crew and once again they pulled out all the stops to run an amazing event. There were some strong performances from national team members and some exciting results from our up and coming athletes.”

Among the racing highlights was national team member Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB) finishing first in men’s sitting super-G (SG) and giant slalom (GS), Katie Combaluzier (Toronto, ON), back racing on a break from her studies, winning the women’s sitting GS and slalom (SL), and Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), racing on his home hill, winning all three of his events in the men vision impaired category.

The event also provided an opportunity for a group of forerunners, including Florence Carrier (Sherbrooke, QC), who will all be FIS level racers next season, to spend time with their future teammates on Canada’s national team.

Another highlight of the event was Canada’s Para-Alpine Ski Team (CPAST) hosting contest winner Amber Attalla and her family for a day of skiing and fun racing at Kimberley. Amber was the lucky winner of the Mackenzie Investments contest and enjoyed a wonderful day on the slopes with some of the best ski racers in Canada.
