Meribel - New Offers For Coming Winter, Increased Environmental Focus

Méribel, located in the heart of Les 3 Vallees, the world’s largest ski area, is renowned for its exceptional skiing.

Méribel successfully hosted the 16th Winter Olympics (Albertville) in 1992 as well as the Women's Alpine Ski World Cup in 2013, and the Finals of the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2015 and 2022. This winter, it will be on the legendary Roc de Fer piste that the best Alpine skiers will compete to win the coveted title of 2023 World Champion! After the Olympics, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are the biggest event in world skiing.

For 15 days, the best male and female skiers from all over the world, more than 600 competitors, will come together to compete in 13 events in all the key disciplines of Alpine skiing: Alpine Combined, Super-G, Downhill, Slalom, Parallel Slalom and Giant Slalom.

Méribel has a great terrain for experienced skiers and boarders, as well as for ski touring and off piste. The resort is also excellent for beginners and children – there is really something for everyone. Here are some new offers for this winter:

Snowboarding for little ones with OXYGÈNE: Kids aged 8 and above can learn snowboarding in group lessons with Oxygène. To guarantee the best learning conditions and a fun atmosphere, there is a maximum of 6 children per group. This allows the instructor to pay close attention to each student. Available as group lessons, 5 or 6 day option from 340€. Available as private lessons, from 165€ (2 hours in the afternoon, for 1 to 3 participants).
Le Roc - The new introductory ski touring trail This uphill slope for ski tourers is a great introduction to a sport that’s growing in popularity. Discover touring in complete safety on this easy itinerary right next to the ski area. At the top of the Chalets gondola lift, put on your skins and set off on an easy 2km walk with a 370m climb towards the Chalet du Lac. When you reach the top, enjoy using the chalet for a well-deserved break, and enjoy the views!
Recharge your smartphones on the slopes! We all know that the cold shortens your battery life! So that you can stay in touch with your loved ones, by sending them friendly texts or jealousy-inducing photos, you will find free smartphone charging points on Méribel-Mottaret’s ski area. Just leave your mobile phones in a closed locker with the pin code of your choice, go for a run or enjoy the views, then collect your fully charged phone, ready for the rest of the day! Where to find them: - At the foot of le Mont Vallon, at the top of the Plan des Mains and Plattières lifts, and at the start of the Bouquetin lift. - At the OPEN AREA snowpark hut, where you can also admire the experienced riders’ jumps and tricks!
High mountain guide training with PROSNEIGE: Prosneige offers its clients a thorough off-piste ski training course, including a study of snow, cartography, teaching skills, ski touring, and how to analyse and reduce off-piste risks. In just a few hours, you’ll touch on all the skills of a High Mountain Guide.
Guided outings with OXYGÈNE: Enjoy the authenticity of Méribel, far from the pistes and the ski lifts, on a day of ski touring. Discover unique places in the company of an instructor who is passionate about touring and who knows the terrain like the back of his hand. However, you have to earn your turns in these magical places: ski touring is physically demanding. Oxygène invites you to share this unique experience with your friends or family. Since 2018, the Vallée des Allues Town Hall has had an Environment Commission responsible for making policy proposals regarding protection of fauna and flora and preservation of the landscape etc. Beyond the work already accomplished by this commission, the elected officials and local stakeholders now wish to further move towards sustainable development and thus accelerate the environmental transition of the area. The Méribel 2038 project commits it to this approach. This project ensures development will be economically viable, environmentally responsible and humanly fulfilling.

In concrete terms, how does it work? After an initial diagnosis carried out by a consultancy firm (DAMOÉ) in the first half of 2021 with agents, elected representatives, business leaders, etc., more than 450 actions have already been taken in the area in favour of energy, waste, the preservation of our natural areas, and our attractiveness to tourists, etc.

The Méribel 2038 project aims to make this approach progress and grow. By this autumn, the ecological and social transition plan will have its first 4 year action plan (first term).
