Suunto To Release 9 Peak Pro GPS Multisport Watch
Suunto released its Suunto 9 Peak Pro, a GPS multisport watch made in Finland with 100 percent renewable energy. It is the first Suunto watch to calculate its carbon footprint and fully compensate with Verified Carbon Units.
During its lifespan, the watch creates just 16.5 lb CO2e (7.5 kg CO2e), or the equivalent of driving a fossil fuel car for 27 miles (44 km).
Building on the Suunto 9 Peak’s design, the watch is the thinnest (0.4 in/10.8 mm) and lightest GPS sports watch from Suunto, it is designed to be repairable and meets the military’s toughness standards. See the list of tests here.
“The Suunto 9 Peak Pro was engineered with a new, more powerful chipset architecture that boosts the performance to a new level while having the best-in-class battery life compared to similar-sized products on the market”, said Vice President of Product Sami Männistö. “The new user interface, with bigger icons and digits, as well as the use of white and color background elements make the watch easier to operate and read during sports, allowing sports enthusiasts to focus better on what they do best.”
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro includes three battery modes—Performance, Endurance and Tour—and lasts 21 days of daily use before needing to be charged (40 hours in Performance mode, 70 hours in Endurance mode and 300 hours in Tour mode).
The watch can connect with up to four satellite systems (GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BEIDOU) and up to 32 individual satellites simultaneously, resulting in greater accuracy when exercising in challenging GPS conditions.
Combined with the Suunto app and partner services, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro gives users many route-finding options, turn-by-turn guidance and advanced training tools. Users can also find/create routes with Suunto app’s heatmaps, 3D maps and road surface map layers.
Also new to the Suunto app, now compatible with iPad and Android tablets, users can pre-structure workouts and follow the plan during a session. The latest avalanche map layer shows areas of avalanche danger, making it easier to plan alpine trips. Users can share their journeys in 3D animation.
The Suunto 9 Peak Pro, available October 24, 2022, is available in six versions, four in stainless steel and two in titanium, and a wide variety of accessory straps.
