Arena Highlights Challenges In The Snowsports Industry Due To Rising Energy Prices

Arena highlights challenges in the snowsports industry due to rising energy prices, they say:

The conditions for winter tourism are becoming more and more difficult from year to year. In addition to the rising temperatures and the resulting shortage of snow, there is now also the energy crisis.

The industry is concerned that the snowmaking systems that have become necessary will remain switched off this winter. However, this would not only mean that we would have to do without skiing in winter, but also that 126,000 jobs linked to Austrian winter tourism would be at risk.

Instead of giving up and paralyzing the ski areas, we should therefore look for ways of containing the consequences of the energy crisis. Austrian cable car operators are already working on potential adaptation methods. It would be possible, for example, to save part of the slope for snowmaking, only attach a limited number of gondolas and stop night skiing. In addition, ticket prices for visitors will be increased significantly. Switching to alternative, sustainable electricity production is now urgently needed.

It is also more important than ever to use digital opportunities to save energy. We have developed methods with which massive savings in resources can be achieved through ongoing evaluation of measurement data - without having to make any compromises in the quality of the slopes.
