Silvretta Therme Ischgl Sets New Standards, Opening Winter 2022 / 2023
The Silvretta Therme Ischgl will open this winter after three years of construction. Already in the planning phase, a forward-looking focus was placed on an energy-saving construction method. The higher investment costs were made with a view to sustainable operation and are more than worthwhile in view of the current energy debate.
The building of the Silvretta Therme Ischgl was planned and built as sustainably and energy-efficiently as possible. "We made this fundamental decision long before the current energy issues and thus also decided to invest more in sustainable energy cycles," explain Markus Walser and Günther Zangerl, the board members of Silvrettaseilbahn AG.
Sustainable building as a basic attitude
The term sustainability is not an advertising strategy, but an inner conviction of those responsible for the project: "The Silvretta Therme has a cubature of approx. 75,000 m³ and it was the declared goal to realize the building with a largely fossil-free heating system," emphasize Walser and Zangerl.
Furthermore, attention was paid to maximum insulation and a comprehensive installation of heat recovery systems. Likewise, materials such as ammonia, which is currently still used in many comparable ice rinks, were deliberately avoided in the construction of the ice rink. Instead, the operators rely on CO2 - even if it was considered uneconomical at the time of construction. The advantage: This technology provides both cold for the ice surface and heat at a high temperature level,
Geothermal energy as the central energy pillar
With the exception of the outdoor pool, the entire building is heated with geothermal energy. A geothermal probe system (with 37 geothermal probes, each 290 meters long) was set up specifically for this purpose. With a view to the tense international situation surrounding the energy issue, the operators are proactively examining further savings potentials in order - if necessary - to be able to ensure solidarity action in step with other industrial and economic sectors. The builder and operator of the new thermal baths is the Silvrettaseilbahn AG, with trial operations scheduled to begin in November 2022. The new infrastructure complements the range of holiday and leisure activities for both guests and locals in the sense of a year-round destination. The cable cars in Ischgl/Samnaun will also be in operation for around a month longer in summer 2023, namely until October 15th.
Optimal utilization through dynamic price system
A dynamic price system will be used in the Silvretta Therme Ischgl, which should enable optimal control of occupancy. The admission prices are calculated and fixed once a night by an algorithm for the following day and the following days. The price information can be conveniently viewed by visitors in the web shop as a price calendar and on site via monitors. With a large selection of different ticket options - from a three-hour stay to an all-day private spa - the Silvretta Therme Ischgl offers the right thing for every taste.
Region creates 80 new year-round jobs
After a design and planning phase of around one and a half years, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new terraced thermal baths took place on September 5th, 2019. In total, the Silvrettaseilbahn AG invested around 75 million euros in the project, creating around 80 year-round jobs in the region. "The Silvretta Therme Ischgl should set an exclamation mark for extraordinary architecture combined with a future-oriented mindset. A place with a focus on health, sport, relaxation and coming together,” say Walser and Zangerl in unison.
Impressive architecture in Ischgl
The artistic form of the Silvretta Therme Ischgl nestles perfectly in the surrounding landscape. An architectural highlight is the champagne-colored exterior facade, which underlines the elegant appearance and whose interaction with the environment changes over the course of the seasons. Inside, the element of water in its three aggregate forms of ice, water and steam sets the theme.
Complex offer for locals and guests
A multifaceted leisure Eldorado extends over four floors in two buildings in the Silvretta Therme Ischgl: from indoor and outdoor sports pools to a spacious adventure pool with a whirlpool tower and an outdoor pool with a pool bar, there is a water surface of over 1,000 m² for everyone and each something. Gourmets get their money's worth in the three restaurants and bars. The ice rink, which leads spectacularly around the building, has an area of 1,300 m² and the fitness area, equipped with the latest training equipment, offers a spectacular view of the village. Numerous saunas are available for mental and physical well-being, and health is the focus in the Medical Spa. In addition, events can be held in well-equipped rooms for up to 600 people. Alexander von der Thannen, chairman of the Paznaun - Ischgl Tourist Association, puts it in a nutshell: "The Silvretta Therme Ischgl enriches the entire region with its complex offer - for locals and guests alike."
