Loon Mountain Resort Begins Season
Loon Mountain Resort kicked off their 57th winter season and for the first time in its history, guests on opening day began at the Governor Adams Lodge base area with 87 acres of terrain and 2,100 vertical feet, making this the resort’s largest opening day. "There have been massive technological upgrades in the West Basin including the additions of Kanc 8 and fully automated snowmaking. I'm excited to have it on display for opening day." said Brian Norton, Loon’s president and general manager.
Kancamagus 8
In December 2021, the most technologically advanced chairlift in the eastern United States debuted at Loon, Kancamagus 8. The lift’s integration was the first major milestone in Loon’s ten-year capital investment plan that focuses on modern innovations throughout the resort. Entering its second winter of operation, and with the optimization of snowmaking in the West Basin, Kancamagus 8 will be the first lift guests will ride this winter.
Snowmaking
Loon’s annual upgrades in snowmaking have made it the most powerful system in New Hampshire and among the elite in the East. In 2021, Loon introduced fully automated snowmaking to their system and have added more for 2022. Additionally, semi-automated snowmaking technology has been installed on Sunset and Cruiser trails. The new technology helps maximize short windows of cold temperatures while also being efficient with energy usage.
Seven Brothers Express Quad
In the Octagon Lodge base area, Loon is preparing to open the Seven Brothers Express Quad this winter. The Doppelmayr high speed quad will more than double the maximum rope speed of the previous chairlift, cutting the ride time to three and a half minutes. Installation of the lift is in progress and will open in December.
